Default Driving is hard...WTF is wrong with people?

I generally do not like to fly and we enjoy road trips.

We had a cruise out of Florida and drove down. I've done this trip 30ish times, never a problem. We like to find a few good places to stop down the way and back up.

We made it from Michigan to Lexington no problem and decided to go down through the Carolina's the rest of the way.

What an absolute cluster ****. There was an accident every 30-40 minutes. One was a complete closure of 95 because some dip shit decided to tow his what had to be 40'+ Airstream with a Colorado, they ended up parallel with one another and shut down the freeway. I hope his insurance company doesn't cover it.

After that it was accident, after accident then mysterious dead stop slow downs in the middle of no where, then it was fine, no accidents, no construction, just lets almost stop on the freeway.

It took us an extra 4 hours to go from Lexington to just south of Savanah which is not that far.

Also apparently white Southerners have discovered Subaru's, there were shit tons of them all sitting in the left lane doing 5 under the limit.

I'd say I'd never do it again but we were 4 or 4 stopping at some great restaurants and towns.

I've noticed that drivers seem to be getting worse than they used to be.

I blame Brandon

95 is a total shit show pretty much the whole length now.
The construction zones always have accidents.
I avoid it whenever possible.

The interstates have become a complete cluster****. By far, the most serious issue is the passing lane bandits. They just will-not-get-the-****-out-of-the way. Then add in all the trucks.

We used to drive from Syracuse NY to Ft. Myers Floriduh every March. We'd leave on Saturday morning, spend on night half way in Roanoke VA, and get into Ft. Myers on Sunday night. We'd stay five days then drive back the following weekend. I could never do that today- way too much traffic, and a 12 hour day would turn into 15.

Airstream doesn't make a 40 footer. Only the Basecamp or small Bambi Airstream models are probably ok to tow with a Colorado.

I play golf with a retired doctor. He told me that more than 50% of the people out there are walking around on some form of happy pill or other. I believe that this is a large part of the problem that we are seeing.

And the other half have their faces buried in their phones or other form of entertainment. Paying attention is soooo boring, man!

And no reason to believe any of it will get any better.

Maybe AI will save us all.

The old rules of the road -- "Keep to the right except to pass" -- are not being taught anymore, apparently.

I noticed this starting 30 or so years ago.

That and getting stuck behind some asshole in the left turn lane who just sits there when the light turns green instead of pulling half way out into the intersection

(a pet peeve of mine)

Here in NYS, and I'm betting it's pretty much everywhere, you cannot pull into an intersection on a yellow. But if you're already in the intersection, you can continue through once clear.

If the law were not like that, then someone in the situation above -- not yet in the intersection -- could never pull forward and make the turn.

Correct. They'd sit there forever.

When setting the timing for a traffic signal, it is expected that two cars will make it through during the yellow portion of the cycle.

Exactly

I remember when I moved to Kalifornication from the Philly area and was amazed you could turn right on a red light after coming to a stop.

PA wasn't like that in 1973

The feds forced Massachusetts to adopt right turn on red after they fought against it for years. When they finally caved, they put NO TURN ON RED signs at every intersection.
