Cancelled my home phone today

Have a land line business phone still doing its job after nearly 30 years. Big tech change that made my day was the death of phone books. We had a local company and a national, had to buy advertising from both in case one book got thrown away.

Had a land line at my old house, which I needed to have DSL in order to connect to the interwebs. When they ran fiber, I switched, and the land line became a fax line.

Since moving to PA, we haven't required a land line, nor a fax line. We do have fiber internet, but it is costly to have just internet, so I bundled with TV service. Cheaper to bundle than to buy interwebs only.

We built our house 10 years ago this month, and never had a phone.

Look at the government fees and taxes associated with that landline.
None for internet access...for now.

I office at home and use the phone for business calls/faxes occasionally when not out in the field. Sometimes a land line is clearer with better reception.

Better reception? At home? What? You do know you can use wireless internet for cell phone calls, right? No reception issues when you're at home.

I work from a home office as well when not traveling, and have never had a landline in this house - and never missed it or thought I needed one. YMMV.

Cancelled our land line as soon as our kids graduated high school, ten years ago.

4-5 years ago, I realized that the only time our land-line phone rang from someone I wanted to talk to was when one of the kids wanted to talk to a "generic parent", not caring which one of us answers. If they had a specific parent, they called our cell phones.

Once I realized that, I cancelled the ****er and have never regretted it.

Funny. I jsut had an installer come out to work to run two POTS lines into my PoP for some fire alarms in our outdoor education center on campus (think like summer camp and cabins). Don't want to use VoIP since the POTS lines have a different power source from the phone company and won't go down if we have network issues.

"Land line" is just part of a fiber package; it's VOIP. We have it programmed to ring only when the incoming call is from one of the gates (this only happens for a new delivery person) or the alarm company. All faxing can be done via a computer. The only scan needed is when moving hardcopy to .pdf for storage.

I have no idea what the number is...

Comic is, they built this burb in '72 and so ran the ATT lines down the backyard prop lines, underground with a box/term every 4 houses.....lines underground going into houses......and so everyone has no land lines, and went with Comcrap/Xfinity for all services except cphones.....go figger....

Haven't had a land line for about 10 years. Now we have 2 cell phones and Frontier fiber internet. No cable service but I do plan on installing an OTA antenna for local news.

I think our total monthly bill is about $125 / month.

I've had a MagicJack device for years now. For $43/yearly, it does a good job of cutting down on SPAM calls and provides an cheap alternative to providing my cell number to everyone.

This ^^^ Cells are easier to block also. We also dumped satellite tv at least10 years ago and go with Antenna TV fo fee! Works very well.
