Default Tundra front end.

Getting closer. Old steering rack out, all control arms and ball joints are new.

New rack installed. Not as hard as expected.

2007 Tundra, 4.7L 290K miles, 2WD.

Frame looks fantastic for nearly 300k miles, eh?

7 years ago. Had 239k miles. Cost 6,000 bucks. Club paid for it. Free truck for me for 7 years...winning. Albeit, I do all of the work for free, but the club pays for the parts.

I miss the 2007 Tundra Crew Max that I leased in 2007. That truck was the shit. That was the black one with all of the bells and whistles.

Night and day difference from up North here and sunny FLA.

If it was 4wd you would be dropping the front axle housing to get it out, that and replacing the rotted lines and everything the salt touches.

I remember those days. I think I've rebuilt the front end on most everything I ever owned going back to my 1969 Chevelle SS396.

I'm surprised that rebuilt racks aren't available.

Done!

Goes in for alignment tomorrow. Very pleased with the results. Glad to have my garage bay back after 2 weeks.

Greasy hands are greasy.

Two weeks? I did that job on my daughter's 05 Mustang and it took me two hours. That included me re-aligning the front end myself.

The worst job I ever did was replacing the power steering box on my '64 TBird. With the car on jack stands. It was like lifting a lead watermelon.

I fretted replacing the steering rack, which turned out to not be that big of a deal, but I dilly dallied for the past 2 weeks. I need this to be top notch for departure on Aug 26th for Lincoln to race with my daughter.
