help with an 85 corvette power steering

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I need a new power steering pump. I bought the car recently and it had been sitting for two years and when I got it started it will turn to the left ok but when I turn to the right it is really stiff and then will kinda pop loose and then the longer I drive it it starts to loosen up and then when I go to drive it again the next day it does it all over again if anyone knows I would appreciate it thank you
