Default My C5 ain't worth shit apparently

I've listed it for $16,900 (yes, that's high) then lowered to $15,900 - now lowering it to $14,900.

2004, Convertible - stock. 90K miles.

I didn't even get any scammers - listed on Craigslist, Autotrader and Ebay. (1 scammer but so pathetic, he doesn't count).

Ebay went to $10,500 but didn't meet reserve.

For that kind of money I'll just keep it. CarMax offered $11K.

It will need a clutch at some point soon - that's about $1,500.00

So let's say $15K minus $1,500 - $13,500 - that seems like a really good deal to me.

Thoughts? I need to get a mini van. But for the time being the Exploder is running so we have at least one vehicle that can fit three people.

But at the same time, we will need another car. Kid will start driving (he gets the Exploder) wife hopefully starts a job (teaching) - then I'll need a car for work (not the 64 - too damn hot and can't park it downtown).

So net/net - that's two cars I need to buy. And my credit is probably horrible from medical bills.

tl.dr. - three people in family. Exploder with 180K miles, C5 and C2.

Nobody wants my solid C5 - wondering why

Edmunds and KBB

Mine sold for under 10k seven years ago. 125k miles. 98 coupe.

It's worth what it's worth.

Corvettes are hard to sell. At least for a decent price. It's just a small market, regardless of condition or price. I sold my '05 to a dealer where my son-in-law was working. I see plenty of people today with similar early C6s asking the same price I got. Trouble is , I sold mine for that price in '09.

Just keep trying, advertise it anywhere you can without spending money, and maybe you'll get lucky.

Did you list it over at CF Pete?.......at least you know that they are enthusiasts who know value when they see it. Sounds like a great deal to me.
Doesn't cost a thing to list it there either.

It took me 6+ months to sell my 94, it just takes pricing it right and waiting for the person who is looking for that car. Alternatively go the carmax route or trade it in for what you really need.

I'm getting ready to list my Dad's 2011 with 7K miles for him, it's a great car, he just can't physically get in and out of it anymore. I know it will be a difficult sell

The carmax deal sounds like the best way to go.

You might get some bites at 10K but if carmax is offering 11K take it.

Dang it. Selling my 2010 GS was the worst car decision I've made to date.

If you're going to be buying new cars anyway, I'd probably just trade it in and try to come out with a good delta on the new car. Dealer might be willing to give you more for the Corvette if they are making something on a sale, too.

Same with my 2001. Not worth anything, east to work on, cheap to insure, still runs great.

I just did an eBay search for "sold" ads; 2004 Corvette Convertible:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...&LH_Complete=1

this type of search is under "advanced search"

Pete, if I had the cash right now, I'd take it off your hands. Unfortunately, I don't, nor do I have anything to offer as partial trade.

Hope you're able to get what you need soon.

C5's aren't worth what owners think they are. Just the cold hard truth, that a lot of people won't/can't accept. I deal with it almost every day.

good read. as i noted above, i had 125k on mine when i had to sell it in 2010. i drove it. everywhere.

if i ever get the itch again, i'm looking for a red convertible, manual trans. other details don't matter. and then i'd have to find a spot for it. likely in my shop (i can make room).

but other expenses come first, so until someone dumps 20k in my lap and says "spend it all in one place", i'll just keep remembering how much fun that car was over those many miles.

Well, they only made a million or so of the C5. That's rare isn't it ? One thing about it-easy to find parts. Except for that elusive ABS computer. That's a rare piece.
