Cool Cicadas
Coworker sent me these two pictures of the cicada "explosion" at his house. He took the dog out Friday night and nothing. He got these two pics Saturday.

He lives in Spinnerstown PA ( close to the Quakertown exit of the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike)

I'm about 6 miles away

None here in Union County NJ either. I said this earlier in the year, the media was all kinds of ****ed up on this one. We had our 17 year brood in 1996 and 2013, we don't expect them back until 2030.

We don't get all that many up here in NH, but I always liked hearing them. They don't usually come out til around August here. They remind me of those long hot summer nights

The noisy bastards have spoiled a month worth of relaxation time on the deck the last couple years. I hope I get a break from them and the love bugs this year.

The deer flies were really bad a couple years ago. Taking a walk was impossible without bug spray.

Those sound like seasonal cicadas. We get those here every year. They usually come out when it gets good and hot, usually around July 4th, and they are usually gone by early September. It is a sound that I associate with the hot weather, in a good way. I would guess, at their peak in early August, there might be a dozen or two on my property on any given day.

When we get the 17 year brood, there are literally tens of thousands of them on my property every day for 4-5 weeks. Totally different experience.
