I find this hard to believe that this is a coincidence. Have merchant ships figured out how to take out Navy ships innocently????

It's named after Senator McCain's father, Admiral McCain Sr.

I read that some military expert say there will be a huge shakeup in the Navy because of the recent events. All the way to the top.

Islamics got information about how the USN controls the canoes, the SOP on the bridge....and so they pilot large freighters all over the world, often enough they make a U turn at night with lights out..and ram.....

Wife hears a report that this is the FOURTH time our ships have been rammed in the last year or so.....same tactic as driving a sidewalk with a truck....

There is a weakness of our operating procedures and we were dumb enough to train some islamics, end of story.....

And, the senior officers and Master Chief of the ship are relieved of their posts.

Sort of reminds you of what happened to the skipper of the USS Indianapolis at the end of WW II. Court-Martialed for following his orders. . . in other words, we need to find someone guilty even if he isn't guilty.

Hope everyone who is missing is found alive and well.

It's just hard for me to believe that our most maneuverable ships are the ones being struck. The oversized pigs I was on, I could understand.

The two other incidents this year.(from the above cited article)
This marked the fourth mishap for U.S. Navy ships in the Pacific since February.

Aside from the USS McCain and USS Fitgerald incidents, the Navy crusier USS Antietam ran aground dumping more than 1,000 gallons of oil in Tokyo Bay in February. In May, another cruiser, USS Lake Champlain, hit a South Korean fishing vessel.

I would like to know how much time the crews are spending on actual seamanship training VS diversity training?

Typical training consists of constant watches. You have a qualification book that has required signatures. You stand under instruction watches until your qual book is signed off. Then you take a test usually administered by a group of qualified watch standers or the Officer in charge. I really don't think it's diversity training that's the issue unless they have eased up on the requirements for qualification.

I'd say discipline or extended watch hours.

Possibly a lot truer than you think! I also think that the Navy is too dependent on the more and more electronic stuff instead of well trained "watch standers"

I have stood watches on a cruiser (CG10)in the 60s and I seriously doubt that those recent incidents would have happened then!

We don't think we're at war.

Complacent attitude. "We hailed him, he'll turn aside"

Wanna bet?
