are currently at Dad's house, having been there for 3 weeks and 1 week respectively. and since Dad passed away early Friday morning, they have made great progress in clearing out stuff from the house. some donated, some given away, some pending sale. and I just managed to sell both the car and the truck to a local - we'll settle up when i get up there and can sign things.

a married couple accumulate a LOT of stuff in 58+ years of marriage, and we get to sort it out. i'm hopeful that the house will sell fast and for a good amount soon too.

Depending on your age, you and your sisters may want to consider renting the house for a hedge on inflation.

My brother, sister and me just sold dads house and pocketed four times what we would have made ten years ago; adding in rental income over the years. We were lucky to find good renters so we didn’t raise the rent just to keep them. They ended up buying the place.

I’d prefer to close out Dad’s affairs ASAP and not be a landlord 900 miles away.

The landlord thing can suck especially.. Well you're no spring chicken no offense and that far away makes it difficult to handle things.

I had the arduous task of selling my mom's house and furniture (dad has passed many years before), moving her in to an assisted living facility, paying bills and then after she passed closing the estate. I lived the closest so my siblings trusted me with everthing.

All of that is rough stuff. I have no brothers or sisters, and my mom had managed to mortgage her house to 80% of loan value, which I didn't know until she had the stroke that eventually killed her in 2016. It was either let the bank have it, or sell it since I didn't have a spare 180k sitting around, and already had my own mortgage. I had managed to sort the small stuff out between her stroke in March of that year, and spent my Christmas putting what was left in a Ryder truck and moving it to Georgia. I feel your pain...

spent the entire morning making phone calls to various folks.

we have a possible buyer coming by tomorrow to look at the house, if I can get close to what i'm asking and what the realtor suggested, i'll be very happy. if I can sell it with the remaining furniture and game heads, i'll by very, very happy.

so stay tuned.

managed to sell the car and truck yesterday, so ticking off the list as fast as we can.

ideally, this all goes thru, and our trip up there later this month will only require a few days, not weeks upon weeks.

bury Dad's remains, take a few last things from the house, and done.

Feel your pain, cleaned out a bunch when Mom died but Dad is still chugging along at 92. Won't be such a mess when he passes on, but hopefully quite a while yet.
