Where did you work? I worked at several nuclear power plants after the Navy. Nuclear cleanup and decommissioning work has been very good to me - and our finances.

Bechtel out of college. after 8 years, they said bye.

later figured out they were more about managing stuff than doing creative engineering (and when they did do that, they weren't very good, see the Boston tunnel ceiling failure).

Looks like they have it at my neighborhood supermarket. $2,500, wow, That's serious coin.

That's more than I paid for my baller watch.

example 1, salary of 80k, 30 years of saving/investing, set aside 15% (12k), assume 6% annual return (quite doable, moderate risk needed), you'd end up with $1,017,620

example 2, salary of 80k, 30 years of saving/investing, set aside 5% (4k), because you want to live larger, assume 12% annual return (hard to do long term, lot of risk to be taken on), you'd end up with $1,085,170

i'll stick with option 1 Alex, not that hard to live a little simpler for peace of mind and options later.

end of math...

I am example 3. Didn't/couldn't save jack-squat until a few years ago and will be fkd when I retire. I figure I can help Adog put a divider down the center of the van and crash at his place.

IMHO.....anyone spending $2,500 on a single bottle of Scotch has way more money than brains!

Captain & Cranberry, beer and/or wine. Never developed a taste for straight booze. Reminds me of gasoline siphoning as a teen.

My first “The Macallan” was the result of reading Neil Peart’s book, his regular was 18, so I asked for a bottle for Christmas. When my wife handed it to me she said, “this is a one time event.”

Since then I get a less expensive The Macallan most birthdays. The best one I had was from a couple of years ago, is was a Gold addition, or something like that, it was wonderful...and currently not available.

I can’t say I can tell that much difference between the 12 and 18 (not $300 worth anyway). One thing I do with all my whiskeys and scotch is I open the bottle and leave the cap or cork resting loosely on the top for a week or ten days. This really smooths it out. And always neat.

If you get the chance again pick up a bottle of the 18-year old Rare Cask. I prefer it over the regular 18-year old Macallan.

Scotch is for men in skirts.

Bourbon is for men with a little coal dust on their cheeks.

I don't wear makeup on my cheeks, with or without coal dust, so I'll stick with Scotch.

That's what I paid for my last watch!

The wine I buy my wife is $11.99 per bottle. I must be a ballah!!!!!!!

I have bought a few bottles of scotch that, to me, were "expensive", I'm talking like $200. I can't imagine spending $2500 on a bottle just to have around the house to drink when I felt like it. A big special occasion with several folks who were way into that sort of thing? Maybe.

It's a kilt ya heathen. Do you know it's customary to wear nothing underneath a kilt? Does that put an image in your brain you can't get rid of?
