Morning Rod.

The Camaro is running. There is an apparent break in the wire from the ignition switch down to the starter relay. Connected a bypass wire and it starts and runs fine.

Now that it starts and runs I have a problem with the gauges. The guy I bought it from had done a butcher job on the wiring when he installed a digital dash. I've reconnected the wires, matching wire codes, but the tach and speedometer on the OEM panel do not work. Also don't have full confidence in the other gauges.

When you say ignition switch; are you referring to the actual ignition switch screwed to the steering column under the dash?
....or.
...the commonly referred to "ignition switch" where you insert the ignition key?

We just had some rain is all. Spent a week with my dad, he's 86 now. He just got out of the hospital for broken ribs, pneumonia , and heart issues. He has to stay on oxygen at night but is ok during the day. He seems kinda frail right now. He insists on walking to and from the car when we go to stores or restaurants. He says he needs to get his strength back so he can ride his motorcycle again. That's all he really looks forward to nowadays, I hope he can do it again. When he was in his early 20's he rode a motorcycle all across war torn Europe.

IDK. The guy that came to fix the problem only said that it was between the ignition switch and the relay.

Nothing like somebody butchering wiring to make you lose some hair...
Just a thought have you considered just getting a new dash harness maybe dash itself, he may have fried something or wires been eliminated.
I looked at a firebird few years back had a rats nest of Scotch locks and yellow wire nuts along with masking tape both under dash and hood.. I walked away, had never seen such a butchered dash and I like wiring for the most part.
