Not my taste. He is a technician for sure. To me it sounds like frantic noise. I can’t discern any musicality in it. It is amazing guys can play like that. I just can’t see putting in the hours to make that sort of musical statement.
Then again, what do I know? I’m an old dinosaur player. That guy probably knows chords. |

I only know this because I played it like he is for years until the dude that replaced SRV in Double Trouble showed me the correct way. You can see the difference between the two approaches when you watch Stevie play it. He slides up to a B note on the third string twice during each riff. This player is bending to the note the first time (sounds almost the same) and skipping it entirely the second time. Still a better player than me. I’m going to slow down that first video and figure out WTF he is doing. |

On the original recording the first note on the G is a bend not a slide. The B string is also a bend not a slide. Live he plays all slides. Listen close and watch this; |

Good catch on the B string too. I do many of those same licks and if somebody asked me exactly what I was doing, all I can do is look like a deer in the headlights. At this point my hand seems to operate independently from my brain and instead is connected to my ear. (Penis still in the same place. ) Quote:
