Funny I worked at a lot of IBM facilities, both new construction and renovation.
Guess what, it was the white male that did a very large percentage of that technical work.

This is kinda like the battle between the combat military people and the peacetime ones that take over after the fighting is done and get rid of the people that actually did something.

This happens a lot more than people realize, there is a quota system in having a certain amount of diversity within your employee population (and a lot of companies will tie it to their bonus to make sure they are doing their part). The federal gov't sets hiring standards once a company becomes a certain size and you'll go through mock OFCCP audits (office of federal contractor compliance programs) to ensure your hiring efforts are acceptable to the dept of labor.

It's racist and discriminatory but all under the umbrella of equal opportunity. My previous company was in biotech and we were trending around 7% african american, which is really good for a company of our size, but still not good enough for some leaders. That's only one example of how bad it has gotten in the hiring world.

IBM bought out the company I worked for, so I was one of those white guys working for IBM, and one of their rainmakers. Christ, they even sent me and my mother to Morocco for a trip I won based on my production.

Then...they tried to cut my compensation to the tune of 30k+. I flipped them the bird, took a job at a boutique firm for a 51% raise, and then moved from that company to my current employer for an additional 45% raise. **** IBM.

I (a white guy) was selected for an IT job at the Smithsonian Institute by their CIO (whom I had worked for at another agency) and was waiting for a start date and the CIO called me to tell me that he was over-ruled and told he had to hire a minority (somebody several slots down the "short list" of contenders). So, yeah, it happens all over.

Too bad because it would have been the coolest job I can imagine.
