Default 93.51%

That's the percentage of my annualized billing quota I achieved in 7 months. I thought 281 hours with no days or holidays off in November was a lot, December was 300 hours on the nose, no holidays off. I was scheduled for 2 weeks of PTO in December....that went out the window.

Starting to feel like slave labor. Better see some amazing things in my next review....just saying....

For the 7 months I worked, I was expected to bill 882 hours, I billed 1,571, or 178.12% of budget. Bonus faucet shuts off at 110%.

heard a story years ago, they were interviewing Pres. Reagan, and asked him about how he handled the 70-90% tax rates back in the 50s and 60s when he was still making movies.

he said he and Nancy got together, figured out how much they needed to earn to cover all their bills, and then he'd work that long and call it a year. he saw no point in working hard and giving it all to .gov.

or maybe a story about Ross Perot:

https://www.quora.com/How-did-Ross-P...s-peers-at-IBM

Quote:
By 1961, IBM executives decided to set quotas on how much commission a salesperson could earn each year. In 1962, Perot reached his quota by January 18, less than three weeks into the year.
reportedly, he said "see you next year" "what?!" "hey, if you aren't going to pay me anymore this year, there is no point in working more either."

Taxes are no longer the issue (well, except when I get my bonus check), but I'm willing to work unlimited hours for unlimited pay. I have always had a brutal work ethic, and I usually break the mold everywhere I go, and that may happen again. I already have a competitor courting me for significantly more money....

I have loyalty, and like the stability of this gig, but they may need to revisit the "compensation rules" if they wish to keep me in the fold.

you are a smart, hard working cookie. and i'm sure you knew at least one of the above stories. so i posted them for the benefit of others too.

"sir, could you make something special and custom for us?"

"sure, show me the money."

I've never read that excerpt from Perot. That was a good read and can see the parallel.

I live in the world of 1's and 0's and people pay an amazing amount of cash to keep them organized. And they change the rules at every step of the way.

At $1000/month, 160 hours is about $6.25 an hour. 300 hours is around $3.33 per hour. I know what I'd rather make...

Especially when I'm paid by the hour...

Great to get into beast mode to catch up or meet a goal but be sure you set a limit for yourself so you can unplug for a bit somewhere.

I've had some family that spent their entire lives working the long hour and not being around to reap the benefits.

Don't make me fly down there to drag you out for the night.

Had a boss long ago, issued an edict that we would all be working more hours, producing more product for no extra pay.

Bye.

Craig - you are gonna burn yourself out ... and, not get what you are hoping in return. I hope I am wrong, but I spent 30 years in corporate america ....

My advice - back down ... set reasonable expectations of what they are going to do to reward you (it will always be less than you expect or you have earned).

if you will settle for less, the boss will be quite happy to pocket the difference.

Hoda Kotb making $18 million less than disgraced 'Today' anchor Matt Lauer as viewers slap NBC on pay gap | Fox News

same job, same tasks, way less pay for Hoda. she has settled for less.

At your review, if they tell you what a good job you did, tell them wait until they see you do it sober.

Don't get me wrong, I love to work, and work hard. This is single project specific, and it keeps going and going, and it's outside of my responsibility, but it still gets dumped on me. An API integration dumped 1000 duplicate products into the product table and caused dry run load of quote lines, and all of the cascading tables to get totally hosed. Again, I've done this 1000 times, and at the last minute, some DEV introduces new shit that breaks the entire process. The process I have to repeat is about 48 hours non-stop, and this is just to get the sign-off to do it for REAL in production. Then I get to do it again for the deltas and AGAIN for the trailing 4 years of data that's not going in on the initial load.

If I never hear this client's name again, it will be too soon. But, I'll go down swinging, and hold up my end of the bargain. It's not ALWAYS supposed to be like this....so they say...
