Funny you should say that, this year I got back over $500. I do not like to give the government a non interest bearing loan and my accountant usually gets it so close that I have to possibly pay about $50 or get about that much back. I told her to sharpen her pencil a bit more and go back to the +50 -50 amount.

we have reached the point where the long-form is not advantageous.

Seems the more responsible and self-sufficient a person gets... they are penalized for it.

No, you just have to be very rich and put your money in places such as Panama. Or maybe even one of the big banks so their hot shots can pay their way out of the clink.... Wells Fargo admits deception in $1.2 billion U.S. mortgage accord | Reuters

If you really want to be ill, use this calculator to see approximately what you'll pay depending upon who is elected. It's disgusting.

"Donald Trump: His plan would cut federal revenues by an estimated $9.5 trillion over the next decade. Cuts would be across the board, but most cuts would be for wealthier households..."

Gotta love the media...

The top 15% income earners (as reported by IRS) paid 78% of all income taxes for 2013.
The lower earning 63.4% paid 6.2%

No matter what the media pens, they paint wealthy individuals with the same brush as Corporations who magically pay no taxes or have some hidden insane tax shelter where they shovel their "tax free" gains.

Yes my accountant is creative with helping me maximize my write offs (all completely legal) but some of the low or non-contributing tax folks would have a fukkin' stroke and take to the streets with pitch forks and torches if they had to write the quarterly checks I do. (As a percentage of their income)

Then I get to stop in to a local restaurant and hear a waitress brag about how she, her husband (also working) and 2 kids only pays $35/mo for health care. I don't even bother to tell her I have to pay $800/mo for my same size family for bottom tier care that has an $8,000 deductible.

I'm on Mary's insurance since the cost was only about $35 a week more than what I would pay at my work. Due to the "affordable healthcare act", Mary's employer ( local hospital ) attaches a $100 per pay period "added fee" since I'm on her insurance. Plus it went up almost 50% again this year.

not all income is taxed the same way. you can complain about this, or you can arrange your affairs to take advantage of this.

Of course, and my accountant is exceptional but at the end of the day, you can only write off so much.

My "complaint" isn't as much having to pay a larger percentage but rather those that cry foul about the "rich" paying their fair share as many pay little to no taxes and receive subsidies that I'm not privy to primarily because I make more than they do.

True. I have found that income they don't know about is taxed at a far lower rate.

Until they find out.

Anyway, the government doesn't have a tax problem, they have a spending problem.

No. My wife changed her deduction. I paid more tax in the first 4 months of the year than she paid all year.

Filing alone, I would get money back, but together we owe.

Owed $3800 this year. Mostly because of end of year bonus's and accounting not taking proper taxes out. Sucks considering ALL the daily taxes paid.

I was actually happy about my taxes this year. Having a wife that is a stay at home Mom and a child makes a huge difference.

I guess I need to adjust my numbers.
