Default Septic Tank Cleaning Cost?

We've been in our current house for 3 years. It has a septic system; I never owned one before.

When we bought the house, the previous owner had it pumped out a few days prior; our inspector said it all looked OK, & recommended having it pumped out again in 3 years.

It's a 1250 gallon solids tank, followed by a 1000 gallon liquid tank with a pump to the field.

I'm assuming that they only pump out the solids tank. (Amiright?) Question for anyone with a septic system is what do you typically pay to have it pumped out?

I would suggest it to be pumped every month if Felx is cooking for you.

Pump it all and make sure they rinse it clean. Mine is a bit bigger and cost $300 last time. If you put a aerator in your solid tank and use minimal good tp you may never have to pump it. Never use rid x.

Had my house built in 2003 4 bedroom 4 bath 3500 sq ft. We have not had the septic system pumped yet. After reading up on it I think I better get on that.

Quote:
The national average cost to clean and pump a septic tank is between $295 and $610 with most people spending around $375. Depending on the size of your septic tank, pumping could cost as low as $250 for a 750-gallon tank, or as high as $895 for a 1,250-gallon tank. Get free estimates from septic professionals near you.

Get ours done every 3 years at a cost of $250. I have to do the digging to expose the cover. Takes about 20 minutes as top of tank is only 9'' deep.

If they have to dig to get to it thy charge more. I dug the hole and knocked a clean out hole in the corner. Put a PVC riser in at ground level. Cost was 250 few years back, guy said it wasn't due and it had probably been 10 years easy since cleaned out.

Average human ( not flex) produces about 325 pounds of pooh per year. One gallon of pooh is roughly 8 pounds depending upon moisture content. Some of that goes away as moisture. So, assume 275 pounds per human per year if your stool is really, really dense. Fill it halfway, or 625 gallons, that is 5000 pounds. How many humans in that house to fill it that much in three years?

3years x 275=825. Even if you have six, hard pooping mofos, that tank isn't full.

I dug the covers up myself and was charged $425.00.
That is WNY prices, (Buffalo Suburb).

I bought my house in NH in 2007. New construction. When I sold the house two years ago, I had to have it pumped. Was $350 or so. First time pumped, so it needed it.

Tanks for the replies. ~$300 would be OK with me. No digging required, the tanks have iron "manhole" covers that are exposed & easily lift out. I guess I'll ask the guy who does it if it was premature, & if I could have waited longer.

Just take a stick and poke around and see how thick and deep the solids are.

If a septic system is operating properly, it doesn't need to be pumped.

I've lived in my house since 1990. It has two septic tanks. I've never had either one of them pumped out.

The village idiot we used before was charging $250 and wanted to raise the price to $280.

We ended up seeing an ad in a local paper for another company for $180.

When the new company came, we found out the village idiot was only taking the liquid and leaving all the solids The new company did the correct job cleaning it and luckily no damage was done to our septic system.

EDIT

Village idiot is based out of Quakertown PA and has "Polish sounding name" that begins with a K

The upstanding and honest company is Robbins out of Green Lane PA and is highly recommended.

Here where the older systems were put in about 3' deep will cost you plenty if your overdue on getting them pumped. If it acts up in a cold part of the winter and they have to bring in a backhoe to get to the tank cover(and possibly the whole leach field) that normal charge of $250 or so will seem like a bargain.

As for me its cheap insurance to get it done every 3 years!
