Default It's Unbearable

Chinaski and NAV, drive through Granada Hills fastttttttt.

https://ktla.com/2018/07/17/lapd-res...-neighborhood/

Residents in a Granada Hills neighborhood are being urged to stay indoors after a bear was spotted roaming through the area on Tuesday morning.

LAPD units responded to the area of 16000 and 17000 block of Timber Ridge Road after initial reports of a bear in the area, according to a Los Angeles Police Department tweet.

A short time later, the bear was located about a couple of blocks away, in the 13000 block of Whistler Avenue. The location is not far from Orozco Street.

Sky5 first spotted the bear underneath a tree outside of a single-story home around 11:30 a.m., aerial video showed. The large animal appeared to be resting in a shaded area outside of a single-story home.

An hour later, the bear could be seen strolling on the sidewalk near homes before heading toward a nearby drainage ditch. The animal then disappeared into one of the tunnels as police monitored the situation from the street above.

The bear briefly popped his or head out of one of the tunnels before walking into another one around 1 p.m., Sky5 video showed.

LAPD and animal control units are on scene and monitoring the tunnels from both sides.

No additional information was immediately released.

Check back for updates on this developing story.

Residents of the 16000-17000 block of Timber Ridge Dr., Granada Hills, please be advised to stay in your home as there are reports of a wild bear in the area. Police units/Animal Control are in route to respond & handle the situation with care. Thank you.@LAPDHQ @LAPDCaptainLium

— LAPD Devonshire (@LAPDDevonshire) July 17, 2018

Update:

"Then, just after 1:15 p.m., the bear was sitting at the edge of the wash when a warden fired at a tranquilizer dart at the animal, hitting his upper left leg, video from the scene showed.

The bear wandered around for a brief period of time before appearing to fall asleep in some nearby bushes. Officials then took the drowsy animal to an awaiting truck, where he was driven away.

Lurie said the bear would be relocated to somewhere in the Angeles National Forest."

Yeah man, lots of Bears ****in around this year. Probably looking for water. That's not too far from where I live actually. Sandy isn't too far from there either. The Santa Susana Mountains were generally considered 'Bear Free' until one got hit on the 118 freeway a little over a year ago.

My buddy saw one a few weeks ago at the shooting range, evidently I had just missed it driving up the road. Off of Little Tujunga Canyon past the Ranger Station. It's the forest, but I've been driving up in that area for 20 years and the only thing I have ever seen are Deer and Rattlesnakes.

Of course where our cabin is in the San Berdoo's they are fairly common. There is one destroying trash cans up there right now actually, heard from someone that lives up there full time.

I'm more worried about Mountain Lion though...those things scare me.

Yea, it is hot lately and ole Yogi Jr there could be looking for water.

Also, one day I had just got past the Mulholland overpass, you know where you can get over the far right and then get off @ Ventura, and traffic came to a stop. So, I start looking around and right there off to the right was a deer with no worries. She was very calm and checking out things around her. More, where I live @ Beverly Glen/Dickens area there's a fox, coon, and some squirrels. Plenty of critters around here. The coon hangs out right at the corner of BG/Dickens. The fox is a roamer with even the visiting sis-n-law from Carlsbad catching him in the early AM trying to be slick and sneaking around. Mofo gets caught often by us.

There's been a few mountain lion sightings within 200 yards of my front door. There's a creek running through the fairgrounds and that seems to be attracting them. Like you said, looking for water. What worries me is there's a concrete drainage canal that feeds that creek about ten steps from the back of my mobile home. Even at this time of year, there's a little standing water in it.

The city's instructions on what to do if confronted by one are almost comical. Don't run, wave your arms and make as much noise as you can. If they attack, fight back.
Right.

Deer are way too thick in the Santa Monica Mountains. They really should allow some hunting opportunities because there aren’t enough natural predators to thin them out. Heather had a client in the Encino Hills close to the Encino Reservoir...driving around there at dawn or dusk is downright sketchy. I’m serious, there are literally hundreds of them. Shit, Jennifer (Radio gal I work with) pegged one on the Hollywood Freeway in Universal City two years ago...damn near totaled her BMW. Killed the deer. True story.

On the freeway here with tons of traffic, crazy stuff. Btw, is that the Jennifer that talks very fast. Holy cow, sometimes it's like the FedEx guy on the commercial from the 80s.

Bears run from me. True story, during one training evolution a buck came down from the hills and stopped right in front of my target. I was in the prone position lining up my target with my M4 and the rangemaster said if I even thought about it, I’d instantly regret it. As tempting as it was, I held my shot.

I was shooting at Angeles Range about 20 years ago and saw a buck run right across the range...then it went up the hill and started grazing about 150 yards out on a hot range. Dumb animals.

There used to be a strafing and bombing range in the Philippines called Crow Valley. The Filipinos would collect the leftovers. Never mind that there was plenty of UXOs, Unexploded Ordinance. Once in a while, the planes would be called off due to someone on the range.
