Not really a reboot, as the events of the prior three films are directly in play, and despite claims of a total redesign, everything looks like the prior three films.

The design language hasn't changed, and none of them would have looked out of place in the previous films. IMO, that isn't a 'total redesign', it's just changing the fender vents and moving the tail lights around.

I dont quite understand whats going on...

In the first film, Shia put his grand dads specs on ebay, this drew in the decepticons, which drew in the autobots...Optimus, Bee, etc...The decepticons were beaten and dispersed...with MEgatron dumped in the ocean.

Over the course of the hiatus...more autobots show up. The Fallen regroups the decepticons...and we have Revenge of The Fallen....where again, the Decepticons are beaten, and Megatron flees....

Then we have the 3rd film, where we have Sentinel prime, the ark on the moon..yadda yadda...end of the world...Transformers come back, defeat dentinel prime, the bad white dude, and destory the pillars....earth is saved, the decepticons defeated, autobots okay..except ironhide.

So...in this new film..we see that Optimus is a Cab-Over semi...and is beat to shit, dead...and Wahlberg revives him, baddies come by..optimus protects wahlberg and his family. At this point, we see that apparently only 2 of the original autobots carry over.

What time frame is this on...and how does optimus end up a wrecked out junker...I dont like it when directors and producers/companies start to switch shit up to just churn out films...

THERE MUST BE CONTINUITY...

You mentioned the character description may indicate Mark has Galvatron, rather than Optimus. I'm not getting that myself, and I notice that the cab over has faded flames on it, IMO a clear signal that this is Optimus.

It's basically real time since Dark Of The Moon, with four years passing between them.

Looking at the trailer, it's pretty clear all remaining Transformers are in hiding and are hunted. The other Autobots may not have survived to this point, and Optimus may have changed vehicle mode on his own to hide.

Remember, Bumblebee set that precedent in the first film, changing from the '73 Camaro to the Neuvo Camaro at will when it suited him.
