Flashy as in putting folks in harm's way strictly for ratings.

Doing the exact thing they preach at you ( as a common person ) NOT to do.

You mean like...NASCAR, NHRA, INDY, F1, etc..."professional driver, closed course"....

There are inherent risks when you do dangerous things. These people love the thrill of chasing tornadoes. Watch "Storm Chasers" sometime...its like Crack for them, they are out there and know the risks. If you are in the path of a tornado...you are at risk regardless of if someone is out there in a suburban taking pictures, or not.

Racing is a lot more controlled than a tornado. Not a good example. You have a choice of whether to attend a race.

Glad nobody got hurt badly but the self proclaimed "experts" just got their ass handed to them.

Nothing stood a chance with the F4/F5 that blew through here several months ago. It cut through this concrete and steel bldg. like butter. Sucked cars, trucks, and houses up into it and spit them out hundreds of yards away. Slab is all that is left of the house.

In the Weather world, he is already Famous...haha. He is a regular on TWC, anchor/forecaster, etc. Like Jim Cantore..but not quite as famous.

You know, JC got caught in the twisters last week..he rode one out with Timmer in DominatorIII.

Damn Casper! That's terrifying. Is that your house or someone you know??? When did that one hit? Hope no one was killed!

I agree. Lots of assholery up in here, but that seems to be typical of The Barn these days.

its a dangerous job...but someone has to do it. It has inherent risks, but the "POS Vehicle"...not sure where that comment came from...held up well and everyone walked away.

I can promise you, if you and your family were in the path of the storm...and your weather guy was getting mixed signals from his various radars and screens...and he was hesitant...but he gets a call from Reed Timmer saying..Tornado is forming, call in the warning"...and you get 15 minutes of advance warning, vs 5 minutes..you would be singing his praises.

Wouldn't happen since I never have and never will live in an area prone to disasters.

There slowly approaching reality tv. 20 years ago when dopplar was not that great, I could understand then need for this. Now they're just a bunch of thrill seekers trying to claim some third rate fame to boast driving into a Tornado.

Sorry but if a person goes and drives off a cliff just to see the effect once they hit the bottom, live to tell about it and want glory from it all, they're idiots.

There's in-car footage of Bettes and crew while they were getting hit. ABC just showed a clip of it....those boys were scared shitless.

The technology of storm prediction is as advanced as it is BECAUSE they have had people on the ground doing what you think is just thrillseeking. Detecting a signature on Doppler is not the end all.

Exactly. Yesterday or day before, the "tornado experts" and their newest most up ot date technology was all saying that X cell was weakening and that people were about to be in the clear. They cut to the crew on the ground, and he said he felt like the storm was in a cycle, and that it would drop a funnel shortly...and bam, it dropped a funnel just minutes later.

Radar/Doppler..can tell them alot about the storm, but it cannot show you a tornado.

There is a difference between Weather Channel people and storm chasers like Reed Timmer and Sean Casey.

Yeah, Bettes actually won an Emmy for a storm chasing series he did years ago. Timmer and Casey didn't invent storm chasing any more than the Teutuls invented choppers.

An Emmy for a tv series doesn't make him or anyone else a good storm chaser. No one said Timmer or Casey invented storm chasing either.

Be obtuse if you want, but Bettes has been on the ground working in this field for a long time.
