Default Tumble Weed Tuesday

Most if not all of the renters are gone
Soon the the 4 traffic lights will be blinking till next season (they used to bag them with canvas bags)
No more waiting to get into restaurants and the beach is empty.....it truly is the first day of "Local Summer"

Destin used to be that way. But development and promotion has turned the Emerald Coast into a year around resort area.

It’s definitely worse May to September but the lull is not like it was.

It’s the same here, except for the snowbirds from NY, NJ and Quebec that will invade us soon.

Yep.
They used to show up up in January. Now many come in October/November for the holidays season and stay through March.

September is the best month if you own a property at the beach

The couple next door have to endure that crap with/from their families up in the DC region or other north joints......every damn winter for the last almost TEN YEARS they have had 3++ cars in their driveway.....it's a retarrment home like ours.....but they are ten years younger.....she still working as a waitress and pockets some 2k/week in CASH tips.....and he is declining in overall health, difficult for him to even mow the lawn, especially in the HEAT.....and even ME is taking to doing it first thing in the morning sunlight without SWEAT!!!

Looks like Burning Man. Were you at Burning Man you weirdo? Lemme guess; you’re one of those performance artists that throws poo on one another.

The Floridiots are still here in the Blue Ridge mountains. Some stay as late as October.

Can't blame anyone for being in the mountains in October. Very nice up there that time of year. We were in the Smokies last October in the camper and it was wonderful. Sleeping with the windows open and that crisp mountain air was awesome.

I used to love Destin. My family has been going there since the early 40's for fishing trips but after the mid 90's. The fishing was not what it used to be and to catch anything, you need to go way the hell out on a 2 day trip instead of a single day.

The 2nd wife and I camped there in October 1977 in the back of my pickup. As luck would have it, the leaves were at their peak. Was a great trip.

Came back north on the Blue Ridge Yaddyway as far as we could. We were going to move there somewhere and homestead, but it never happened.

My wife moved there in 1980 and left. After we met we returned in 1987. Destin and Santa Rosa Beach has become inhabitable IMO.
We left for points north last year and should have left years ago.

Don't have those issues here in New Mexico. During the holidays, everyone leaves but nobody comes to visit.

Traffic is light, stores aren't so damn crowded.

Same here in the Honeoye Lake area. Flatlanders invade on Memorial Day weekend and go back to their wretched city lives after Labor Day. No strangers in town now until next May!

Honeoye Lake as viewed from the south. The hamlet of Honeoye is on the far end. I live in the valley off the right side of the picture.

In the tri-county they NEVER leave.
They buy, and then bring their neighbors, in-laws and outlaws with them the next year.
Not sure how those frenchie canucks pull it off, as thought they were limited to six months.

As a "side job" in the AF, I played for several softball teams. When I was in Systems Command, the Command Tournament was down at Eglin every year. Lasted for two weeks, and we'd play max once per day until you ended up in the losers bracket. So, we had a bunch of spare time. There was (is?) an O-Club on the beach in Destin that was amazing and had Margaritas for 75 cents. Loved it down there, but I knew coming from CA that it was only a matter of time...

The place was an absolute paradise.
When we arrived it was like a Bahamian out island, or being in The Keys. "Beaches, Bars, Boats & Ballads"...Literally.

Now it is Ft Lauderdale.

We were spoiled. Fresh Grouper and Snapper almost daily for lunch or dinner.
I learned to fish the blue water for actual sea monsters.
And the bays and backwater flats for Redfish, Jacks and Trout.
Caught my largest ever Redfish in the surf from the beach, walking distance from my home.
We used to swim out to the sandbar that parallels the coast and dive in gin clear water for sand dollars the size of your hand. Starfish and hugh seashells. Baby hammerhead sharks would circle us and we'd laugh.
It sure was cool then.

A true laid back beach town. And almost everyone knew each other. I think there were about 5K residents on the whole peninsula back then. And it would maybe double or triple in the summer with tourists. Now there are millions who visit each year.

I wouldn't change that time back then for the world.
