What with winter getting closer and the threat of the country going into another lockdown, I decided to treat myself. Was thinking of getting a pinball machine for my mancave but was having difficulty choosing one. Decided to get a cocktail table arcade system instead. Loaded with more than 3,500 classic arcade games, I am looking forward to playing some of the classics like Pac-Man, Centipede, Asteroids, Joust, etc... My wife is looking forward to it as well.

I didn't splurge - I installed RetroPie onto a Raspberry Pi4, plugged in some old XBox controllers, and hooked it up to my TV.

Today I think it cost four quarters just to start.

I have seen a few in shitty indoor malls, and at larger restaurants that target families.

Gaming consoles killed the arcade market,,, very sad, as nothing feels like a pinball machine.

Not far from me, in Asbury Park NJ, is a "Pinball Museum" with pinball machines from the 1940s to very modern ones. The good thing about it is that you can play all of them! You don't even have to have quarters, you pay to enter, and can play as many as you want. My wife and I go there once or twice per year. Always a good time! :thumbs"

In the next town over is an arcade, and they have some of the older games. My son and I have gone a time or two, but we don't really like their games.

There are others around, but you have to look for them. It's not like the '70s and '80s where every mall had an arcade, and most pizza shops had at least a few machines. Those were good times, and we knew it. I was just surprised at how quickly that era ended.

I think Play Stations and X-Boxes replaced a lot of the need for them. You can't very well play "Uncharted" on a machine in an arcade. But I still like the old retro games that I grew up with. This unit is going to go well with my billiard table. Maybe next year, I'll add that pinball machine.

Nice! Those machines are so much fun. I go the stand up arcade with the Jamma 412 board and it has about every game we played in the day.

Asteroids
Tempest
Donkey Kong etc.



Wife gave me the go ahead to get a rebuilt Addams Family pinball so I'm researching that this next couple weeks.

The air hockey table has held up well so far but it's only been a few months so we'll see.

If I find this to be too low, I may build the riser for it. It's 31.25" tall with the surface laid down like a cocktail table. They sell an 11" riser for it for $290. All it will cost me is a half sheet of plywood and an hour or two. Some black spray paint to make it match the cabinet.
