June 2012 Photo assignment

Right up front let me apologize for the tardy post. I was traveling over the weekend and the first part of the week and haven't had much 'computer time'.

JimMartley's May entry inspired me to choose "Moods" as this months topic. Your entry should convey a mood, be it, tranquility, foreboding, love, happiness, sadness, confusion or some other emotion or feeling. It can be a landscape, portrait, candid shot, abstract, or just about anything you feel conveys emotion. I ask participants not to vote just on the technical merits of the photo, but rather the mood it evokes.

So here's a modified copy/paste of the previous rules:

You must be the photographer, and it must be taken this month. Use whatever camera you have with you at the time.

Photo manipulation of contrast, lens correction (chromatic aberration, pin cushion, etc), exposure, brightness, color, sharpness and crop are allowed. It's not clear (to me at least) from the previous rules that black and white is permitted but for this assignment it definitely is. Sepia tone, and other similar filter treatments are okay this month and I'll add vignettes to the list. "Chopping" something into the image is not allowed. HDR is not allowed. ( There will be an HDR assignment in the future. Save that technique for that assignment please) [ga edit: I won't relax that ban here, but I hope a future assignment will; there is a time and place IMO]

You may submit several images to get feedback, but by the deadline you must edit it down to one for the voting poll.

Use of Smart phone apps is allowed. No borders but filters are ok.

Okay... I'm going to make a call here... I originally messed up the day and put Saturday, the 29th when I meant the 30th. Let's give everyone until 11 PM EST SATURDAY, JUNE 30th. We are a little short on entries anyway.

I was up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine since Thursday morning enjoying the annual Corvette Party that myself and 250+ Corvette Friends attend every year. I shot 1,200 pictures over the course of 4 days so I HOPE I shot something that fits the competition this month! My shutter finger has cramps............. )

I'm posting this image for my wife. She was taking pictures for a charity ride for breast cancer. The party after the ride was at the Flying Aces MC. My wife bumped into this guy while she was trying to get away from the smoke from a burnout contest. She did not tell me how she was able to get him to smile

OK, here's my entry for the month with a little background info on the subject.

We were in Maine last weekend for a Corvette Beack Party with around 200 other Corvette friends and the motel we stay at has an outdoor pool that is NOT heated. The weather in that part of Maine had been dreary and cold all week. Friday the sun came out and it felt good. Now add a little alcohol and and some good natured dares and SOMEONE ends up going for a dip in the 55 degree pool!! My Buddy Jimmy was the LAST person I would ever have guessed to take up the challange! Please note the "forboding" look on Jimmy's face as "the Boys" get closer to the waterline!! Please ALSO note that MOST of the people in the background have sweatshirts and other versions of outerware to keep warm.
