High dollar sports car with low dollar lube tech. Being cheap with employees means ya gets what's ya gets. So the owner did a cost/benefit analysis; insurance is there for a reason.

I work in the repair and parts industry and here's the current deal... NOBODY wants to work in a non- air conditioned bay which requires a 10 grand or more personal inventory of tooling just so they can earn 15- 20 dollars an hour to change oil. Especially if they can flip burgers in a climate controlled zero contact delivery fast food chain instead. SO... we as an industry hire largely whoever we can coax through the front door... train them and hope for the best. Which often leads to disaster. Don't necessarily blame the dealership, they might have only been playing the cards they were dealt.

I work in the parts dept in a dealership and I can tell you it is almost impossible to get lube techs. Like stated above ours start about $10/12 an hour and our shop is an older dealership. No AC. No one wants to start out at the bottom and work their way up.
