Cool The hit and miss engine that runs my friend's machine shop.

Bill uses this Domestic 6 horsepower sideshaft hit and miss engine to power his line shaft machine shop. The engine was built in 1910 and still runs like a top.

The method Bill uses to start is referred to as "bump starting". The rings on the lineshaft that "dance" back and forth are known as "mice" and keep debris from accumulating on the shaft.

Enjoy

Many years ago I seen those at a Pa. fair, York Pa. if I recall correctly......

certainly close to there anyway.....they predate OSHA by at least 1/2 a century......

Super cool rig

Maybe only 6 hp but I'll bet the torque is substantial.

Was at a fair a few years ago. One of the vendors had a hit and miss engine set up to make ice cream.
