Default NOLA Funeral Update

Well, tomorrow is the day. I'm exhausted and looking forward to getting it done. This has been one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Not a single legislator or healthcare group will be joining me. I'll be speaking alone.

I've learned a lot from this.

1. The biggest lesson is the confirmation that people don't care about anything that doesn't affect them personally.

2. I've learned that people have become so cynical, they cannot separate politics from any issue. They think I have a hidden agenda. (At least the super lefties around here).

On the upside, I have reached national and Texas legislators and I have reached a lot of people online who get it and are supportive.

People are afraid to speak out here in Austin because of the totalitarian left wing here - I'm taking a very big risk that I will be marginalized for speaking out - even though my ideas are absolutely mainstream (see #2) people are blinded by ideology.

In fact, check this out:

Quote:
There is also evidence that removing this antitrust exemption will result in lower prices and other benefits for consumers. Time and time again, increased competition results in lower prices, increased choice, and greater innovation. A healthy and competitive health insurance market will drive prices down in the health insurance industry, just as we have seen it do in so many other industries where competition is allowed to take hold. Since California passed a law in 1988 that eliminated the state antitrust exemption for the auto insurance industry, for instance, auto premiums for consumers in California have risen by 9.8% while the rest of the country has seen auto premiums rise by over 48%.
That's from Nancy Pelosi's web site - House Passes Bill To Repeal Antitrust Exemption For Health Insurance Companies - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi

We'll be filming tomorrow to produce a 1 minute video for social media. Then I have to walk away. I don't have the strength for this fight. I need to concentrate on earning an extra $45K a year to pay for my new insurance*

* It looks like we can set up a small group through my company. But holy shit, it's expensive. I need to stay on my feet to keep working.

Good luck Pete. Hope somebody picks it up. You contact the local Fox affiliate?

I sent your video to both PA Senators.

One "canned" response from Sen Toomey(R) and no reply at all from Sen Casey(D)

I tried

Actually. money talks and bullsh!t walks.
You'll be walking in a funeral procession while big pharma is greasing the palms that you want to influence.

Turn it up and learn from the masters.... of puppets

Wishing you every success! David vs Goliath for sure but even just a chip that can grow to be a widening crack is possible...

Check around some clients. I was able to join a group because we did some work for the Cattle Raisers Association and they had a group we could join. Saved our ass.

Still had to quit freelancing but it held it off for a couple of years.

How does this work?

The event went as well as can be expected. I hope more people show up for my actual funeral.

But I scored three interviews - UT news, Fox 6 and Time Warner. I hope to have video soon.

Thank you guys for helping make it happen. The band was great and now I know another 9 killer horn players.

I'm going to be sitting down with legislators one on one in the coming months. I'll continue to advocate as much as I can but I need to use my energy to earn a living.

I'm going to start a separate thread about the true, root problem as I have discovered over the course of this journey.

Good idea, too bad about the turnout Pete. I hope the interviews go viral for you and you get some action. Love to see some video of the band and procession........did you have a black horse drawn funeral carriage?

Some small trade associations will let a mom and pop operation join the group and be a part of the Assn. That makes you eligible for the insurance benefit.

We joined the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. It was $90/year and they had good health insurance. We do not have cattle, but had horses at the time, but owning livestock wasn't a requirement.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers | Why Join

I looked at ad agency related orgs - AAAAs, AIGA, AAF... none of them offered anything.

Rand Paul is putting forth a Senate bill that is supposed to let trade association have the ability to provide an insurance benefit across state lines. I'd support that.

Good luck, Pete. I know it's a tough row to hoe.
