I never go to any big box store. I always shop at my locally owned hardware, lumber or appliance stores. Much better customer service where you're actually treated like a person and not just a sale.
Screw all these big box stores.

My Electric company will install a new water heater and split payments over 3 bills. No labor.

Our standard water heater failed maybe 8 years ago after 20 years. I initially go to Lowes just looking.

I found them and then went to the cust service to send someone who had a clue.

I walk back to them and two guys came to me from opposite ends of the aisle. One said to the other, "hey, do you know anything about water heaters?" Nope!

So I called Sears and had it all done for around $1200.

Never heard of that before, our company will come out and put some kind of fliz on the heater to cut down on power usage/peak hour consumption but I didn't opt for that - corporations have enough control over my life.

Five years ago the 80-gallon expired after 17 years.
I went tankless, paid $1,000 at amazon, local stores wanted $1,200, so I saved $272 as paid no taxes--was the largest at time for home use.

Knew a dood, he installed on a Saturday, gave him $500 plus $200 tip, as was a lot of work, ran it thru two 50s, and then did a separate box of 3 60s--who needs permits and inspections.
At peak, there were five ladies in the home, tankless was always up to challenge.

I would buy again, as my neighbor just replaced a 60-gallon and paid $2K for heater, parts and labor.
