GOP Wants to Pay China Before Social Security Recipients

You might think the GOP hates the poor and the elderly and, really, all of those that rely on entitlement payments of one sort or another. But I'll bet you didn't know how much they hate them.

They hate them enough to introduce a bill that prioritizes paying off our debt to China over their monthly checks.

That's right. Congressman Tom McClintock of California has introduced H.R. 421 – "To require that the Government prioritize all obligations on the debt held by the public in the event that the debt limit is reached." This bill would prioritize payments to China and our other creditors over our own citizens should Congress not raise the debt ceiling.

It isn't just China and Japan that own our debt. It is also little old ladies and regular Americans that have bought T-bills and T-bonds, hoping for a safe haven to park their money.

Defaulting on our debt obligations sounds great, until you realize two things:

1) Plenty of Americans (including seniors) are going to lose, as well as China.

2) Defaulting on our debt ensures that our dollar becomes worthless on the world stage. This is bad for America, and it is even worse than cutting grandma's Social Security check, or telling her that Medicare can no longer pay for a $ 2 million dollar medical treatment for her.

Sustained deficit spending has brought us to this point. It's time for a reasoned discussion on how to keep the country from going down the tubes, not for an emotional, "they're going to kill grandma" argument.

Based on the statements of Boehner, it doesn't appear that the non-Tea GOP has the balls to make grandma eat dog food.

The fact is, we don't have the money to keep on paying everybody who currently gets a check at the same rate we are currently paying them. Without borrowing, which is guaranteed to sink us, the US is like the kid at the candy store with a hand full of change asking what he can afford to buy.

At some point, we will just have to embrace the horror. People on the government dole (through paid in entitlement, employment, or welfare) will have to start making do with less.

You'll note that Texas is trying to change state law to permit teachers to be paid less. Currently, our state and local deficits necessarily means that folks WILL lose their jobs. Wouldn't it be better for those folks to take pay cuts, rather than just lose their jobs?

Wouldn't it be better for seniors to have their SS checks cut, rather than have our whole government go tits up, at which point there aren't anymore checks?

WHY THAT??? the .gov would deny US who paid 15% of our gross to the 'system' and so cut US vs just toss off all the illegals and other freehaulers on the system....like AFDC, etc???

I know we stuck with the 'first' wave that Reagan regretted in free.....
