The most prolific battle rifle ever
That title has to go to the Mosin Nagant. They are literally still used on battlefields the world over, and have been for over 100 years. That is staying power right there. I have a couple of them. Who else?

I kick myself for not picking some up when they were $100 and came with the extras.

I got into them when they were cheap. I paid $170 for a hex receiver 91/30 several years ago, and thought it was way too much. Cool thing is, they put the import stamp on the barrel under the cleaning rod and didn't jack up the receiver. It is a beautiful rifle as far as Mosin's go. I have 6 of them in various configurations, and countries of origin. The prize is a 1944 Tula M44. They are neat pieces of history.

Most prolific AK-47 around 75 million https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-47
Mosin–Nagant around 37 million https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosin–Nagant Years ago you could buy an AK47 in downtown Mogadishu, Somalia for $30. It may be more now. |

L1A1 / FN FAL is a well loved battle rifle too. The US was really close to getting it but a few folks in the military were all bent it was a british design so we ended up with the M14

The reason I think it is the most prolific is that it has been in use literally since the late 1800's, and is still found on battlefields everywhere. It is also used by some modern militaries as a sniper rifle still. While I much prefer the M1 Garand, history and use is on the side of the Mosin.

I picked up my first Nagant back in 1961. Great shape, beautiful bore and it was a hexagonal receiver.
Really good shooter too. Paid $19.95 at local surplus store. |

Mosins were $69.95 each by the cratefull here. I thought they were too frigging long to be of use... wish I had purchased a dozen or so. Ditto the Royal Irish Constabulary unissued Enfield .303 still in original sealed tube in cosmoline I bought for $100.00 some years back. It sold for $700 to the first guy I showed it to.

I have all of them FAL, M1 EBR, Mosin, AK, Tavor, M1 and ARs but the SCAR17 is my favorite.

Gave away a M38 Mosin...hated it. I had it setup with a scope, brake, butt pad, 10rd mag...it shot great, hated it.

As of now I have 6 older battle rifles in my safe (all Bolts).
I have the famous Nagant in a carbine. (Nasty, noisy) I also have one of arguably the second place finisher in the most prolific category a British Enfield in the famous .303. |

I've had lots of Lee Enfields. No 4's have nicer rear sights but the old SMLE's are my favourite! Iconic, cool looking and have served almost everywhere. My last addition is an Aussie .22 LR trainer. |

I could kick myself in the ass for not getting an Enfield when you could get them cheap, and even new in the original packaging. Had I known....

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Mausers...the bolt action that started it all.
