Why not a purpose built race car vs new car?

I had a new Trans Am that I would take to the local drag strip and beat on Fri. nights. Then, I thought, I shouldn't really be doing this with a new car. If I really want to get into racing build a purpose built car for it.

Insurance - if I had wrecked my new T/A. Insurance wouldn't have covered it at the track.

I will report again, with video and observations, from actually driving in anger this weekend at the track.

Yep. You are the only 2 here.

Purpose built means every weekend in the garage fixing what you broke at the track the weekend before. Finding parts that are rare, and putting a lot of money into something that will never equal 25% of what you spent. New cars, change the brake fluid, put track pads on, throw a track alignment on it, drive it all weekend and then put it back in the garage for the next event.

I have one of those too. The street car sees track days at things like Corvette gatherings when there is an HPDE, for example.

Check with your insuror. Mine will cover damage as long as it is not a competition (i.e. timed event) so thins like HPDE's are good.

Before I get accused of not "driving in anger", I have a hell of a lot of laps to my name in many different cars, from pure street cars to track prepped cars, to purpose built non production race cars. I don't care how fast it is, driving a street car "in anger" does absolutely nothing at all for me and never has (nor does driving around in an HPDE setting in general). Take the competition and wheel to wheel aspect out of racing and after about 3 laps... I'm just bored. I'd rather go drive a kart, Legends car, ... Spec Miata, anything in ACTUAL anger.

I have driven both my C7Z and a C8 on the track. The throttle steering abilities of the C8 and the bite off the corner are insane. On something with a long straightish stretch (Road Atlanta, VIR full course) I might be able to do a faster lap in the C7 but anywhere more restrictive the C8 will walk away from it.

Can't wait until 10/26!

"I'd rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow." I did TT for a year-it was fun, but to expensive for my blood.
