fixing the drainage in the arroyo, it had silted up too much and wasn't letting the rain water thru.

Ok, but where DAB lives a half inch of rain will fill that arroyo full in minutes.
If the water cannot flow it causes flooding issues; probably too close to his dwelling or shop to be comfortable.
