Default People who haul a riding mower in the bed of a pickup

Piss me off to no end. When a customer pulls up and I see its yet another riding mower, stuffed in the back of a truck, its like getting kicked in the gut...they never have ramps, they use bits of wood...how safe. NEver use straps, cam lock or ratchet..they user rope..lots of it, tied all over the place, with massive knots....

It can take a half hour to get a mower untied, and carefully lowered out of the back of a truck...pain in the ass.

I mean, a 4X6 used trailer is CHEAP and all over CL...couple hundred bucks, maybe 300-350 for a nice one, even a 4X8 at $300.

Ive seen so many mowers damaged by people loading and unloading a mower, into the back of a truck...thousands in damage over the years.

If you are one of those people..who insist on going through the hell of loading a 500lb mower up a set of planks, into the back of a 4 foot high truck bed....WHY?

Just tell them "Get it out of the truck and I'll be glad to have a look at it."

Ive done it before. LAst one was a guy that had a murray stuffed up in the bead of his jacked up Tacoma. I told him to park out on the road and unload it himself..my insurance doesnt cover stupid.

Worst one was a guy that had a rider cokced uo sideways in the bed of his stepside truck. rear tires hanging over the bedrail, nose down in the bed...he asked me to go get my forklift to get it out..im like..what forklift. He loaded it with a forklift, and assumed everyone has a forklift.

reminds me, my Deere riding mower should probably get serviced this year. only 18 hours on the counter. place that services it is in....yeah, Albuquerque. no, i don't have a trailer, just a truck (and a set of ramps). or i could try to do the service myself. just an oil change and lube of the zerk fittings. i think.

You're a shop, you should have better ramps than them anyways.

i'll have to go look, it's parked down in my woodshop. give me a bit. thanks. it's an LA105 model Deere. mostly used for grading the driveway (have a grading thing i tow with it), and towing my little utility trailer to haul stuff. might actually use the mower blades about 2 hours a year to knock down tall weeds here and there (no lawn).

I have awesome ramps, my ramps are totally top notch. But they are strapped down in my delivery trailer, and weigh about 40lbs each, and no one ever wants to help fetch them....

Mine needs work but I don't have ramps. I am having it picked up by the repair guy since he has a trailer. Cable to engage the blade broke. It needs regular maintenance done anyway since it hasn't been done since last year.

Craftsman LT1000 not sure what year. Paid $300 for it 3 years ago.

Those cables usually break at the plastic snap on the top near the handle, make sure they inspect the cam rollers on the deck, they bind up and cause added stress, making the cable fail.

If you have to pull more than once...something is not right.

My mower service picks up my mower, then brings it back.

Actually, I had a close call a few years ago, I had a mower in that I suspected it had a bent shaft (push mower) and I tipped it to its side and pushed the blade around to see if I could see any visible wobble, and the damn thing kicked with my hand on the blade....after that, I started removing the spark plug...

I do too, for a price. People dont wantto pay the price, or buy a trailer, or buy decent ramps...so they get to unload by themselves, and pay for damages when it drops.
