I just watched this--damn cool! The hardest thing for an artist is to paint is the human body (and animals) because it's so hard to make the muscles and skin tone look real and in proportion. Have you ever seen those paintings of 16th and 17th century horses with legs too short and bodies too big? Most of the ones that are in proportion neglect the muscles that show.

Vargas nailed it down to the muscles, proportion, and skin tone. Although the women in his art were "idealized", they still looked very much real. And he did it without (IMHO) trying just to make the women look merely sensual. They turned out that way because they looked like they were sensual in real life and he was just capturing that.

If you go to utube and enter the artist's name there are tons of vids featuring their art. Here's one for Gil Elvgren, who's work is often mistaken for Vargas's, and there are LOTS more of his at the tube.......

Here's one i painted (gouache on fibreboard) a while back . Hope PBucket doesn't censor it .. It's far from good and i don't care if you knock it --- i had fun doing it ..
