I don't drink scotch but there is no way I would pay that amount for anything that I do drink. Hell, I have a hard time plunking down $50 for a liter of Grand Marnier.

You pay that much for a beverage? I have second thoughts when there isn't a sale and I have to pay $1.99 for a 2L of A&W.

If that Cosco 40 year old is too steep...maybe some of this

Great Odin's Raven! Company releases a Ron Burgundy scotch | Fox News

First there was Ron Burgundy Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch ice cream, which was pretty great. But we have to admit that we’re more than a little excited about this latest promotional tie in.

Riviera Imports has announced a new a new Ron Burgundy-branded Scotch called "Great Odin's Raven Special Reserve" made in honor of Ron Burgundy's character and the upcoming release of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."

Bottled in Scotland, the 40 percent ABV Scotch blend is made with whiskies from Speyside, Highlands, and Islay, and will sell for about $25 a bottle, according to Riviera.

"Not just for Anchorman fans," the scotch is perfect for a night of jazz flute or just pouring in your Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch ice cream.

If it's as good as Kirkland paper towels I'd buy it.

Sorry, no way I would pay that for a generic scotch even if it is 40 years old. My price range goes to about 10% of that and I can get something from a distillery that I know

When sis and I had to clean out Mom/Dad's house, Mom to the nursing home at age ~85, Dad gone at age 79, we got into the kitchen cabinet above the fridge, pulled out some booze that been there since the '60's.....

took a sniff of an opened bottle..... down the drain.....

took a sniff of the NEW Unopened bottles.... she and I agreed, down the drain.....that shit would kill anything in the septic tank.....

SO, IMO, 40 y/o anything bottled is garbage....wooden give ten cents for it.....

Booze doesn't age in glass. It is aged in wooden barrels.

That's the reason for the high cost I would imagine. The majority of the barrel is probably about gone (angel's cut) after 40 years of aging.

I was at the local gas station/convenience store buying a bottle of Glenlivet or Glenfiddich, or some other Glen... the kid ringing me up sees the ~$40 price come up...pauses...then asks

"Is that stuff THAT much better than THAT stuff? (pointing to a lower shelf & some $15-20 scotch) "
YES

He pauses again, then points to the $200 bottle of Johnny Walker Blue

"I think THAT is the most expensive thing in this store. Is that THAT much better than the stuff you're buying??"

I have no idea, and it's not likely that I'm going to find out.

But then...I'm hanging out at a friend's cabin. He waves me into the kitchen and gives me the "SHHHHHH!!" sign while pulling out a bottle of Blue. I suspect that he had forgotten to tell his bride the cost of said bottle. He poured us each some and it was DAMN good. But I don't know that it was 5x Glen good.
