Yeh, medals are a big deal if one saw combat whether on the ground or in the air.

He was born in 1918. He spent a full career in the military, first in the USAAF, then the USAF. He was a flier although I’m not sure if he was a pilot or a NAV, etc. He retired as a LTC. We have bits and pieces of his career but I believe he was in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

I was hoping to get some insight into these claims from these awards.

Can anyone ID any or all of them?

Here come the pics

He was a Pilot. Those are pilot wings.

Somebody told me the pair of blue/yellow medals in the glass frame were ruptured ducks

Is that incorrect?

Maybe a nickname?

Like the green ARCOMM. Although given for good reason half the time, generally given for ass kissers. Really. Like CFOT Mods or similar.

"The Honorable Service Lapel Button, colloquially called "Ruptured Duck" by the members of the military, was a lapel button awarded for honorable Federal military service between 1925 and 1946. The award, designed by Anthony de Francisci, was issued for wear on the left lapel of civilian clothing upon discharge."

Air Medals

You had some O-6 wings in one of the pics. What's with those?

Ribbons don't equate to medals 1 to 1, but I'm sure you know that.

The nephew was an O6. I believe that one Col bird was his and got thrown into the baggie. The rest should be the WWII vet

EDIT: Yes those bird wings came from the nephew’s flight cap. It was in poor condition and I removed the wings. They were just sitting on the tray when I took the pic.

Definitely an AF officer, with little to no enlisted experience. No Good Conduct Medal, which is given only to enlisted troops.

Medals are "super" ribbons. You can get a ribbon, and not get a medal, but not the other way around.

No Marksman. Don't know if they gave that then

Don't know what was at the center top, but someone thought it was worthwhile.

Top are Air Medals and USAAF (pre-47) pilot and senior pilot wings.

O5,4,3,2 insignia. Why no O1 when that's a big deal? There were some who went straight to Captain in WW2 given skill and smarts. If you want a story, go after this piece, not the awards, as they are pretty vanilla.

I would wonder what person skipped 2Lt and progressed into the pilot corps as I have heard this and fancied myself someone who may have pursued that path.

The medals are pretty easy. Happy to do it, but it would be better to know a story...

I was wondering about the 2LT too. Maybe they just couldn’t fit it on the grouping with all the other stuff?

I just absolutely cannot believe that the family went through the entire house and all its belongings, each took what they wanted, and they left all this stuff. It just breaks my heart to see how they had little to no value for all of it.

That family selling the house should be put on the commie/deportation short list.

Ooooth, I don't like those things they're so icky and oppressive and representative of the white patriarchy.

It's about time....This is a great thread...and I can't wait to here his story if you guys can figure out his name and history. Shouldn't all these Medals and Ribbons be in some kind of Veteran Museum? It seems like such a waste.

That is a Good Conduct Ribbon. Yes it is only given to Enlisted. He could have received it before he became an officer as I also received one along with an NCO Academy Ribbon while waiting to get into Flight School.

Keep in mind , it was "Army Air Corp" back then.
