Animals are so much stronger than we are...
Remember that day your pet walked into your home? The joy and happiness, love and eagerness to make this furry friend feel as comfortable as possible. Life with pets certainly changes the view of the world you may have and it brings so much liveliness to the everyday routine.
However, pets are living beings and one day, just like everything else breathing out there, they will have to leave us forever. Though sad and difficult, these moments can also bring comfort and strength to help us cope with the situation. Such was a situation Reddit user abernha3 recently found himself in. After battling illness for a long time, his cat Andrew started showing signs of being time for them to part ways. On their last car ride to the vet, Andrew grabbed the hands of his owners as if wanting to tell them all would be just fine. “He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I,” said abernha3. abernha3 explains: “He was 15 and a half, and loved everyone, but just got old and sick over the last year. He purred every day of his life, and when he lost that, I knew it was time.” Though they can’t speak, animals certainly can sense when something is right or wrong. Little Andrew knew that saying goodbyes would not be easy for his owners and decided to let them know in his own best way that letting go was okay. Dying Cat Takes Last Trip To The Vet, Holds Family's Hand To Thank Them For The Wonderful Life I have no way of knowing if the above story is true. I choose to believe that it is. Pets are very smart and know things we humans don't know. Just the other day I had a bout of my recurring mystery pain in my stomach. The pain is almost unbearable, and the only thing I can do is go to bed and wait for the pain to pass in a few hours. Sweetie, my 2-year-old cat immediately jumped on the bed and curled up beside my stomach as if to comfort me and provide warmth and understanding. She doesn't do that if I'm just going to take a nap. All of you have heard of cats who live in nursing homes for the elderly. Those cats instinctively know who's going to die in a few days, and they curl up in the bed beside that person. They're so accurate at such predictions that they never make a mistake, so it can't be sheer coincidence. Please know and appreciate your pet's wisdom and instincts. They can sense danger, whether it's an earthquake, a tornado, or a nearby snake. You are their World; please show them the respect they deserve. |

And people wonder why I take bags of food to shelters.
There is a reason why my primary charity is the Humane Society. |

Our main charity is a local no-kill shelter, and our Humane Society is also no-kill and our vet volunteers there one day a week, and each time we take one of our cats to her place we add on a HS donation to our bill. Then we also do a monthly contribution to the USO and a local veteran's biker charity. They are a great bunch, gave my wife an nice plaque this winter as one of their top donors (which is a little sad because we don't give them all that much...) They give out nice gifts to veteran's kids who are sick or need a Christmas or birthday present bump.

We donate bunches of stuff to a charity call WAG, Warrick Animal Guardians. Most of the humane societies get a bunch of donations from Pet Smart, Petco and others. Our local Animal control is actually funded by the county thru Health Services and not the Sheriffs office. This puts the shelter on the last rung for help.
So a group got together and started a non profit charity which donates stuff to the animal control. It is great to help out our own community and take a small tax write off, well if we could. We also order all of our stuff thru www.smile.amazon.com, you get to pick your charity which Amazon donates to. Even if it is 0.10 cents a year, it is more than having nothing. |
