Insurance adjuster in the parking lot of Food For Less, three days after my mom's house was destroyed in the Joplin tornado:

"So what percentage of your mother's house was destroyed?" Me: 100%

"Surely there is something you can salvage." Nope. Anything that made it through intact is soaked by 14" of rain and has embedded fiberglass insulation and asbestos, at least that's what it feels like.

"I need to go see this for myself." OK, I'll take you there.

"I will go myself." You'll never find it. It's completely unmarked now. Even the police don't know what address is which.

"OK, take me there." I do.

"Well that's 100% then."
