Glad to hear that your area was spared, along with your home. I could not imagine the thought of not having a home to return to. |

So here we are, the danger from the fire is pretty much over for us. Now we just have to deal with all the smoke and outdoor cleanup. It's just a light dusting of ash, but it gets absolutely everywhere. Still getting plenty of smoke from the bigger fire in the northern part of my county, so we don't really want to go outside too much anyway. When we do we wear masks.
Health officials are actually saying not to do any clean up yet until they develop a system to properly dispose of the debris. A lot of old houses burned, and they likely contained hazardous substances like asbestos and lead, so who knows what's in the ash. We are going up to my grandson's house for the weekend, not for safety reasons, just a visit this time. I've had 12 lbs. of baby back ribs in my freezer for awhile and he's got a big smoker, so we'll cook those. My poor dogs are going to be confused again, though. |

Glad you all are safe.
Holy Fire is going down here now. Smoke is drifting this way. All day we had that hazy, orange glow from the sunlight filtering thru smoke. |

It's called an N95 mask. Semi-solid cup that covers the nose and mouth. It's rated for installing fiberglass insulation. Pliable metal strip that bends to conform to the shape of the nose. The fire and police depts. here were providing them free. I bought ours at a hardware store when we were staying at my grandson's because I wasn't sure if stores would be open when we got home. I also bought safety goggles that seal around the eyes to prevent eye irritation. I've only worn those a few times, though. I will use those when we do the outdoor cleanup.

A fire did just start right up the road within the last 30 mins or so. Small one. Water dropping helicopters rattling the windows. They seem to be getting it knocked down rather quickly. |

We had so many helicopters flying right over our place for a few days it made me worry about Vietnam Veterans who may live here and have PTSD.
