Tornadoes have you guys beat, so there!!! Tornadoes 1, Wildfires 0! Good choices too...burned to death, or swept up in a funnel and thrown into the next state!

We are still evacuated, fire still under very little control. I do have a low tech way of knowing if my house is still there. I call there and if the answering machine picks up, I know the place is still intact. If it doesn't pick up. it could be a loss of power or cell service because I have a Verizon home cell phone. But as of ten minutes ago, it still answered.

Wonder how many of these fires are natural, or caused by stupid humans.

They are still investigating the cause of the two fires in my county. When there are two fires that start so near to each other it often looks like arson. The huge fire up north that is near and in the town of Redding was caused by a vehicle mishap of some sort, but no specifics yet.

Yes. There was speculation about a blown tire on an RV causing sparks when the wheel hit the road, but nothing official.

Glad to hear all still sounds good at the Peadbody compound.

I'd hate to make that call each day though...

Update: We left our county yesterday evening. We were staying at my daughter's house and they issued an advisory evacuation so because of that, and the worsening air quality (my wife has asthma) we went to my grandson's house near Auburn, which is a short distance up highway 80 from Sacramento. We are about 120 miles from home.

Nice big house, we had nine dogs here yesterday, so that was fun. We just heard the power is out where we were staying, so glad we left. So for now we are safe and our house is still there. WiFi is a little spotty here, so don't worry if you don't hear from me for awhile. I will try to keep you all posted. We actually have a pretty positive outlook here. And thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and concern.

Not much change this morning. Our house is still there but the evacuation order remains in effect. There was a big flare up last night in a rural area not far from our town. Firefighting was hampered by idiots that had refused to evacuate because fire personnel had to rescue their dumb asses instead of help fight the fire. Looks like they got everyone out, but about ten homes were lost.

We have basically decided to stay here at my grandson's house until the evacuation is lifted, power is on and air quality returns to a relatively safe level. In the mean time my wife and I are having a wonderful time baby-sitting our great granddaughter.

The official word is it could take another week to fully contain the fire. Containment now is at 38%.

The rest of the family has returned to my daughter's house where there is still an advisory evacuation order in effect, although the fire is a pretty good distance from them. Some of them needed to return to their jobs. The hospital is closed down but there are still administrative matters that must be tended too. My daughter has been on conference calls for much of the day as they lay out plans for re-opening the hospital once it is safe. Apparently that re-opening is a very complex process.

Yeah, but when a wildfire rolls through your neighborhood all your stuff turns into ash. When we get a snowstorm, you get a sore back from shoveling and stay inside eating French toast.
