Did you say painless? Where? I would not have the patience for that job.
Looking forward to the completion.

I hear ya, patience isn't my long suit! And that "painless" part? Yeah, not so much. Back in my 20's I could lay on my back under a dash all day, but I'm 65 now and my back hurts just thinking about this shit!

Yup, I'm looking forward to the completion too

I rewired a ‘70 Challenger 440 SE with my dad. Bought the wiring from a wreaking yard. The wiring wasn’t an exact match but we were able to do simple modifications to make it work. The previous owner burnt up the wiring after installing a stereo system.

Man, I miss that car! I don’t see many Challengers with the smaller rear window.

ODD that you guys commenting on old wiring going so bad you are replacing entire harnesses......here my '72 has grown DPFI/associated wiring/computer/etc.....but the old wiring has been modified to accommodate the additional stuff, but things like rear/front lights/hvac/etc are all stock.....I"m age 77 and tooooo damn old to remove/relocate that damn fuse panel under the dash....stupid location......

OLD ET here, and I have never seen anything like a general overall wiring failure in any car I have ever owned.....

Usually it's the result of some turd hacking the wiring and gets to the point where it's unusable as such a mess just easier to replace. Also small fuse boxes of the past aren't up to today's needs.
I've rewired more than a few just forward of the firewall usually due to an engine swap though.

YEH, come think of it, the fuse block on my '72 vette here was composed of two sections.....one was cut out and totally removed.....the one to the center of the car position, the outer one more towards the fender still exists....

My biggest problem with the wiring, Gene, was from mice chewing it up. This car sat outside for about 20 years before I started working on it. Wasn't worth the effort of modifying what was left to accommodate my "slight" upgrades. Just easier for me to start from scratch

Back in the early1960s I helped a friend rewire a burned out under hood & firewall area. Sure did not have all the good stuff of today to make the job easier.

We "goterdone", had no problems but our job sure did not conform to regular color codes or gauges. We used what we had, never went smaller with the gauge and it was a bit sloppy. He had that car for 2 more years and it was working fine when he got rid of it!
