Is it just me, or has it suddenly become nothing but corporate logos on floats featuring badly lipsynching teen idols and outdated balloons for characters that were the fad a decade ago?

It wasn't like this last year... I mean it wasn't this bad... was it?

Holy crap... they Disneyized Ziggy friggin' Marley? NFW...

I agree about it being corporate but I still want to go up there one year and do the "night before" thing where you get to watch them blow up the balloons. I think that would make for some awesome pics.

The wife and I went in '06 and it was great to see it. I had always seen it on tv and to see it in person was a blast. It's kinda funny how you see many of the behind the scene things. It's funny as in right across the street from where they're blowing up the balloons with all the bright lights and hustle and bustle, it's dark on the streets and a lot of homes don't have much, if any, light coming from them.

But it was once the one example of how to achieve that without being crass. The floats didn't always have various company logos all over them and the musical acts used to be much more varied, with something for every member of the family.
