Default Mmmmmmm...delicious infiltration...

Five Guys is here! Northridge location...right next to a familiar institution.

Line was almost out the door, but I used their online order feature. Got the look from a few people as I bypassed them all and went right to the counter.

It was yummy!

It's not the best burger served here in LA, but not bad. I wouldn't stand in the line that was there, that's for sure.

Wife and I just found a place in downtown STL that grinds their own beef and serves what has to be the best burger I have ever had anywhere anytime. If you want it rare, you can get it rare or any way you want it. They serve them with the most absolutely specatacular hand cut and seasoned fries. This is not a fast food place but if you are looking for a world class burger and a nice beer or glass of wine, you have to try The Brasserie in St Louis.

Great burgers. Bad regular fries. The cajun fries are decent, but still not great.

Not many places will give you a rare burger these days.

We said the exact same thing. It's a pretty good burger as far as fast food goes.

If you haven't been to Habit Burger, you owe it to yourself to go. There is a location in your area:

9215 Reseda Boulevard, Northridge, CA

I rank them a close second to In-N-Out, maybe even slightly ahead depending on my mood. I ate at the original The Habit Burger location in Goleta about 15 years ago and was overjoyed (overjoyed!) to discover they were opening restaurants in Orange County.

Five Guys might be a distant third.

Been to the Habit. Not bad. The problem with almost all fast food burgers is that they start with your same basic hamburger patty and the difference comes from what they put on it. If I really want a good burger, I go to a place like Umami Burger who grind their own beef, process their own cheese and make their own ketchup from fresh tomatoes.

I like The Habit.

Not a huge fan of In-N-Out, though. Then again, I didn't grow up eating it, being from the Midwest. So, In-N-Out doesn't hold that nostalgic place for me like it does for a lot of Californians.

No argument there but places like Umami Burger are a stretch as a fast food restaurant. We have The Counter down here (It's OK.) and it's more sit-down restaurant which specializes in burgers than a fast food burger place. If a waiter is bringing me a $12 cheeseburger, I would hope it's better than what I could get at any drive-through.

All the Umami locations are a huge trek north for me but I'm up there in a couple months for the LA Auto Show. I'll have to cruise over to Umami afterwards and try their burgers.

I'm not really a native Californian but I see your point on the nostalgia for In-N-Out.

I am not sure you can actually label Five Guys "fast food". They ain't real speedy.

In-N-Out > Five Guys IMO

Of course, being from the Midwest, I only get In-N-Out a couple times a year

No In-n-Out here in Gawds country but I do like 5 Guys burgers and I do like their regular fries.

Five Guys; we finally got them here. They are great burgers (no In & Out in this area though).

My biggest complaints about 5 Guys are:

* dining room is "institutional" looking; very un-comfortable.

* they have nothing worthy on the menu for ladies that like to keep a trim figure. Yvonne does not like to go there; while I salivate at the thought of.
