All of a sudden, Birmingham, Alabama becomes a Sanctuary City

Those elected officials could give a rats ass about the people from those 6 countries nor those that may take advantage of a sanctuary city. Their interests are far from those issues. Yet, because of their hatred for Trump and all that stands for, they pull a stupid ass knee jerk reaction today.

As a former citizen of that part of Alabama, I am ashamed.

Help clarify something for me.

In a sanctuary city, a criminal is harbored/protected so they are not prosecuted because if they are prosecuted they could be deported and the sanctuary city does not want people deported. Is that accurate?

So an illegal alien gets pulled over with a bag of meth. The city then let's them walk because they may be deported otherwise?

An American however, gets caught with the same amount of meth, and it's the crossbar hotel.

Is that the way it works or is there something I'm missing?

Close. They still get arrested, but in a sanctuary city the cops make no attempt to determine illegal status. If they do find out they are illegal, they refuse to contact ICE for deportation. They still do their time, but the feds never get the call so they can start the deportation/federal charges process.

It seems if the sanctuary city gets some type of tax revenue from the illegal alien, they are more than happy to let them stay.

Just need to hit them hard in the funding. Current laws allow the Federal Govt to withhold up to, but not exceeding 20% . Perhaps an improved law could be passed allowing a higher percentage for cities breaking federal laws. 100% sounds fair to me.

Years ago, I worked with an Engineer who was here from Iran. Medhi and I were good friends and I asked him about all the political protests in his country. He said that it's like anything else...if you want to get involved in all that political stuff you can...or you can ignore it and go about your business.

That's how I look at this. These protests are extremely far away from my reality and they don't affect me in any way. They have nothing to do with me and I have no involvement. Especially in this state, there's so little of that going on. People here would protest more vigorously if the Cowboys traded Dak Prescott.
