Default [Woodworking] A little bowl
turned this today.

alternating layers of mahogany, walnut, white oak, walnut, and mahogany. about 5-1/4" diameter, 4" high, 2-1/4" deep inside. finish is mineral oil/beeswax mix (food safe).

it'll be given away at the next IDPA pistol match (Nov. 3).

i like it, hope whomever gets it likes it too.

no sweat. i'll just need a deposit (to fund the new lathe and buy the lumber) of a modest amount.

the thing with turning on a lathe is that it is a subtractive process. you have to be able to see in your mind what it will be before you start, and not remove parts that are to remain.

with other processes, it's an additive process, you start with an idea, get the framework laid out, and keep adding pieces and parts until you are done. often working from a drawing or a picture. like building a piece of furniture.

so it requires some different thinking and skills.

this one took about 90 minutes to make (i had glued up the blank the day before).
