Oof. Just got to her room. She is unconscious. Big tubes full of blood coming out. I was not prepared for this

Blood tinged liquid (called seroma) draining is all quite normal after the trauma of chest surgery. Shoulda seen mine!

Let me help you….. She is out of surgery and in a room (that’s a good thing).
She is resting and hopefully has pain meds so she is not in pain. Post surgical tubes are helping in the recovery and healing. Nurses are nearby and you can call for them if she needs anything. You’ll be by her side when she wakes up.

Prayers for both of you.

How is your son dealing with all this? Just saying that he is probably carrying a load and wondering if he is doing well.

Damn. I hate to hear that. Stay strong, and see if the nurse will bring you a cot when they get her to a room, because the hospital chairs are impossible to sleep in....and you particularly will need to get some kind of rest these next few days.

Keep us updated. Pretty sure there's lots of VB prayers going out for y'all.

As I'm scrolling thru, this was on my mind.
This is a good sign that it has not spread.
This is great news for you guys.

You may recall 2 years ago Marianne and I went thru the same illness.
Non-smoker/nor-drinker, she had stage 4 adenocarcinoma, 2 different mutant forms which were not hereditary.

I'll hope and pray for a complete recovery for your wife.

I do remember. That’s much worse. Hers was a typical carcinoid. Very slow growing. Doesn’t typically spread. They removed to lower
Lobe of her lung.

Prayers for Heidi to have a smooth and speedy recovery. I hope for you both to receive nothing but good news from here on out.

This sentence really hit home with me as I have sat in an ICU waiting room on more than one occasion with the
same exact thought in regard to what Mrs. V was going through. I get it 100%. Stay strong for your bride.

It’s really red. Like 100% blood. But it’s just an hour after surgery. Looks
Like it’s lightening up already. Nasty.

She is awake now. Feeling rough but ok. She won’t get much sleep tonight. I’ve been in the ICU many times. They don’t let you sleep.

BINGO!

That's what we want to hear. Obviously that was major surgery and she'll need some time to heal up from that, but this is the biggie right here. The cancer has been excised....it's gone. That is EXCEPTIONAL news!

Thanks. I’m not staying all night. She will just sleep and I’ll be back tomorrow. I have to keep working so I can’t stay up all night. I’ll work from the ICU tomorrow.

Honestly he is pretty desensitized by now. I asked him about this the other day. I asked if he was traumatized as a little kid seeing me in the hospital so often. He said at first he was but after a dozen times he got over it.

He was planning on being here today but got called out on a cave rescue. Apparently some obese dude over estimated his abilities and got trapped. He is part of a rescue team that semi regularly pulls people out of caverns. Dumb people mostly.
