To me it's kinda like when you take your car in for an oil change and they put that little vinyl sticker on your windshield that says you need to come back for another oil change in 3 months or 3000 miles. It's complete BS, but people still fall for it.

Singapore managed to contain this virus without draconian lockdowns.

First, that is the article YOU are referring to, not me. You presented it as some sort of after-the-fact refutation of what I said, even though it totally doesn't.

Second, for a growth rate to be "exponential", it would have to double in that time frame multiple times.

Which really is kind of the point, that the media is labeling something "exponential" when it clearly isn't.

Think of it this way: I start making 5 widgets per day and stacking them up in my garage. After 4 days, my wife sees a pile of 20 widgets in the garage. 4 days later, she sees a pile of 40 widgets, and says "Oh my God! The pile is growing exponentially, and is doubling in size every 4 days!" Is she right?

Also, FWIW: Total case growth rate for yesterday was 8.1%. We are almost certainly NOT going to reach 400K cases in 5 days from crossing 200K.

So did I. Most of the golf courses are staying open this month, it's awesome. You're out there about as social distancy as can be, in your own cart or walking. Some people think it's terrible they are letting people golf, as they go to Walmart for the 40th time, grabbing a cart from the parking lot and touching five items before buying one.

Yup, people here demanding they shut down golf courses. **** them.

Someday soon people will start to realize that this thing was way overhyped and we destroyed the economy for little gain.

Clubhouses aren't open, and neither are most if not all the bathrooms. You definitely need to take care of #2 business before leaving the house. I'm not sure why everyone didn't already do that, because I've never once taken a crap at a golf course. But there are plenty that do apparently, if you've ever walked into a clubhouse men's room and gagged.

So true.

Our clubhouse and pro shop are closed as well. One person to a cart except for families. Leave the pin in the hole. That's about all the special rules at our club right now and they keep saying they intend to stay open.

Back in ~'99 a few of us took the business meeting to the course and were golfing at Mesquite club in Palm Springs. I'm a horrible golfer and thankfully the guy on my team was pretty damn good.

One of the guys on the other team, a CEO of one of the top food companies in the US, had the mud butt.

Around the 10th hole, he told us "you guys will have to finish the rest without me" and walked away with a stain the size of a baseball on the back of his shorts.

In phoenix there's a round sponge next to the hole you have to hit. It bounces against the sponge and you pick up your ball. I guess to keep hands from touching the hole?

Life lessons learned. I'll bet he was over 40.

Similar situation in San Antonio. A gurgle I thought was gas...was not. Fortunately the toxic waste was contained by the FOTL barrier. I ran across the street to a hotel, cleaned up and dumped the filter in the trash. Very embarrassing moment even though my wife was the only one aware.

(FOTL filter = Fruit of the Loom)

That makes about as much sense as closing liquor stores. What easier place to practice social distancing than on a gigantic field of grass?

Yup, similar here.

The number of cases, and more importantly the number of deaths, was just revised downward to about half of what they said a week ago would be the best case if we followed all the draconian rules. People are going to get really restless and pissed soon when they realize they've been lied to.

I agree, but there are some people that make it their business to look at what everyone else is doing and call the authorities if they don't like what others are doing. We have at least one of those here in the Barn.
