1965 coupe engine pictures

Here are a few engine pictures.

I recently replaced the original 327/300 engine in my 1965 coupe with an aluminum head 383 with an estimated 425 H.P. It is 11-1 compression, with a 1970 LT1 solid lifter cam and original 365 H.P. intake and carb with factory 2 1/2” exhaust manifolds. I left some H.P. on the table by not using headers but wanted the look of an original 365 H.P. engine.

Here's my 389 CID engine, built off of a big journal 302-327 '68 block with the road draft tube provision. Running the stock dual WCFB 4bbl carbs for stealth. Uses a 400 GM crank, and 1965 461 heads with the 2.02 valves and 2.5" log manifolds. Over 400 HP with a 700 Holley, about 375 with the smaller stock intake. Very cool to run stealth cubic inches!!

Certainly the LS IS a superior engine but I am old school and not interested in computer driven engines that I could never work on if I needed to.

I get it. It just seems dropping an LS3 into a C1 or Midyear is the thing to do....

Yes.
I’m not a fan. Same with the classic trucks. Seems every old pickup truck from the 1960’s has to be lowered on 22’s and with a LS dropped in.

Depends on what you want to do with the car/truck. If you were to build a garage queen that you're going to trailer to shows, then go factory stock. If you want to be build something to drive and enjoy, go modern tech.

Wrong-O. I drive my old tech all over the country, and have for closing in on 50 years. And I drive and enjoy every day. What makes you think you can't drive old tech? You must be under 50 years old.

In that case I’d just buy another C6 if I wanted another Vette.

For me, the whole point of an old classic is to relive the experience from back in the day. And that includes low tech and all the rest that comes with it.

EXACTLY. Younger people today have been brainwashed to think that cars without disc brakes and fuel injection can't be driven farther than the grocery store without breaking down. They think cars MUST have computers, fuel injection, ABS brakes, and 20 inch or bigger wheels to be reliable. It's all nonsense. I get in my GTO's or Corvette and I go back to that time, or at least my youth. The sounds, smells, and driving experience. The closest thing to a Time Machine we have. If I want all the creature comforts, I'll borrow my friend's '64 Imperial!!

If I had the mechanical skills like yourself I’d also have a couple classics. But I don’t so I’m looking at 50K or more to own one that’s not a jalopy and that’s a hard pill to swallow.

The key for someone like yourself is to hire a pro to inspect pre-purchase. And then to keep it garaged. The maintenance is similar to a new vehicle. And the plus is that it will hold or gain value, not decrease.

I could see you in a very nice, basic '60's pickup truck that would have about a 20-30k buy-in price and be cool. Like that 6 banger, 3 speed GM one you posted pics of awhile back. They're simple, well made, functional, and fun.

The way to LOSE with old cars is old imports, particularly European cars, or overly complex old cars like T-bird convertibles or Lincoln Continentals where everything is electrical solenoid activated and they have miles of 60 year old wiring.
But a '47-'72 American pickup truck is about as simple as a Tonka Toy.
