The proponents of gay marriage were and are right. It isn't about validating peoples' love, morality, or anything else....it's about contract law. Letting some people form a unit for Social Security survivor spouse benefits, but refusing others' right to form a unit for that same reason isn't equal treatment under the law.

Obama was actually on the right side of that issue (a rarity), although he really didn't have much to do with it. That was our SCOTUS, legislating from the bench again.

The whole thing began back in 1996 when the Federal Communications Commission authorized the Link-Up and Lifeline Assistance programs for landline phones. At that time, it provided discounts on landline phones only, for obvious reasons.

To this day, the government provides discounts on landline phones for financially disadvantaged people in the United States and U.S. territories. I agree, but subsidizing phone service has been going on longer than that. For example, real time translator service (for the hard of hearing) for landline phones has been fully paid for by the taxpayer much longer than that. Getting phone service to rural areas was also subsidized by the taxpayers, as was rural electrification, before that.

Giving out free cell phones, though.....that's all on Obama. And all of the above is paid for by the outrageous taxes on your phone bill. Take a look and see what the service costs you, then see what the taxes on that same bill cost if you want to get mad.
