Not much change in the status this morning. First morning in a while there were no emergency notices from the Sheriff's dept.

So I guess it's just a waiting game until they lift the evacuation order and the air gets clean enough to breathe before we can go home, hopefully in a few days. Meanwhile this has just settled into a little vacation to spend some time with the grandson and the great granddaughter.

I'm just hoping at this point we never lost power there and all the food in my refrigerator and freezer is not ruined.

Do you put a coin on top of a cup of frozen water in the freezer? You can tell then if the power went out if even if it comes back on later and refreezes. Coin will not be on top of the ice

The mandatory evacuation order for my part of our town has been lifted, although an advisory order remains in place. We will wait until morning to decide whether to go home or not. If we left now we would be in heavy Sacramento traffic and wouldn't get home until dark. Looks like we still have electricity. I don't know yet if it went out at anytime while we were gone.

Well Mr Bear, since you learned something here, perhaps you should send Mr Peabody a 50 cent piece so he can upgrade his thawing detector

My sister-in-law, who lives near us never left the county and she's been to our place today. Everything looks okay, she's watered our plants and she spoke to a neighbor who never left and he says there was only one power outage for about six hours. So I'm thinking everything is good in the freezer, especially since the door was never opened.

The main concern is the air quality which is officially classified as hazardous. She said the air inside the house was okay. When I left I left the fan in the HVAC system on, and it's intake is internal. I have the highest level of furnace filter I could buy in there and it seems to be doing it's job.

We'll asses the situation tomorrow and decide whether to return yet.

Probably going to head home today. Looks like fire danger is over for my area. We'll just have to deal with poor air quality and stay indoors for awhile.

We are home. The air is not too bad, all my refrigerated and frozen food is okay, less ash on the ground than I expected. My garden even looks pretty good. We picked tomatoes when we got here.

There is still an evacuation advisory in place here, so we are keeping our fingers crossed and the car packed just in case.

The battle has shifted to other parts of the county as one of the fires broke loose and started a run down the north shore in the hills above the populated areas. They have evacuated all the small unincorporated towns on the north shore, about a 20 mile stretch. My mom and dad used to live in that area, and so did I for awhile 27 years ago.

The fairgrounds next to my house have been taken over by Pacific Gas & Electric, our power company, as a base camp. Lots of trucks and heavy equipment there. I don't think they would be using it as their base if they felt it was threatened too much, so it's good to see them there.

Once again, thanks to all of you for your concern. It did help us keep our sanity.

P.S. My dogs are very happy.

The fire roaring along the hills above the north shore is on track to enter it's third county. They have evacuated up to the Colusa County line. So far they are doing a pretty good job of keeping it away from the more populated areas.

Winds are pushing it east. That's away from us, but we are still fighting our own fire on this side. Having flare ups now and then, lot's of big ass choppers, even Chinooks flying over my house with big water buckets. These flare ups are about ten miles from my house and there is mainly already burned territory between here and there. The wind is keeping the air relatively clean here.

Car is still mostly packed, though.

#RanchFire #MendocinoComplex [update] off Highway 20 near Potter Valley, northeast of Ukiah (Mendocino County) is now 207,319 acres and 23% contained.

#RiverFire #MendocinoComplex [update] off Old River Road, near Mile Marker Post 7.9, Hopland (Mendocino County) is now 47,663 acres and 58% contained.

That's a total of more than 390 square miles burned.

The remarkable thing about that map is the unburned area between the fires and the lake shore. That is where most of the houses, businesses and population are. I live right about where the word "Lakeport" is on that map. I'm about one mile from the shoreline. The fire came about two miles or so from my house. The fire is put out/burned out there, with strong containment lines cut by bulldozers. Lakeport is the county seat and the largest city in the county. If the whole town had burned, the loss of tax revenue to the county, not to mention all the government buildings and infrastructure would have been devastating. That is why they focused on saving it. Most of the burned areas on the map are unpopulated or sparsely populated. Now the battle is to save the population centers along the north shore. So far they have been successful.

Here is a live video cam from Mt. Konocti, the tallest mountain in the county.

Nothing too exciting now. just a heavy smoky haze all over the county because no wind right now.

From a Detroit suburb too (Farmington Hills).

That lake snow could be some heavy crap!!!

Always had the news stories of people keeling over from heart attacks doing just that.

So now we have become the neighborhood kitchen. Meals on Wheels and the local Senior Center are shut down, so it's Mrs. Peabody to the rescue. She made Shepard's Pie to take to some of our neighbors who are house bound, or otherwise unable to care for themselves. We went to a local food bank where they are well supplied and giving away food like crazy. Mrs. P loves to do things like this. Even found some frozen vegetarian dinners for our Seventh Day Adventist neighbor. Lots of old widowers on the block that don't know how to cook. It puzzles me that someone could reach the age of 75 or more and not know how to feed themselves, but that's how it is with some people.

I'm having a relaxing day for the first time in awhile just watching TV and listening to the exploding propane tanks off in the distance.

Just got the word that the advisory evacuation for my area has been lifted. So now the town can get back to some level of normal. About half the businesses are still closed, along with the county courthouse. The hospital should be opened by the end of the week, maybe sooner.

The Sheriff has banned all watercraft from the lake because looters have been caught using boats to access evacuated waterfront areas. Not that there would be anyone boating with the air quality the way it is.

They've arrested around 20 looters county-wide so far.
