So my wife called to get the propane tank filled ......
My wife called to get the propane tank filled at the beginning of the week since our 100 gallon outside tank was down to 25%.
Friday they exchanged the tank for a newer one and left a note saying the valve was one and to relight any pilot lights. Late this afternoon , while walking the dog, my wife points out the new tank they gave us and I notice they didn't put the screening over the holes to keep the birds out ( they build nests in the spring ). As I'm putting the screen back in, I notice the fuel level gage is very close to the bottom We call the number for our supplier and talk to the nice lady with the answering service. We explain that it's reading close to empty. She says she will call the service guy and he'll get back to use. After staring at the phone for a month waiting for it to ring ( actually about 10 minutes ) , the guy calls back. I explain how we use propane for cooking, the water heater and drying clothes and we used to have a tank with 25% left and now we have a nice shiny new tank that reads empty. He says we'll have enough propane to last until monday when they come back to fill it. He said even when the tank reads completely empty, there is still 5 gallons of propane in it. I sure hope so. If we have to take cold showers or can't cook,Mary and I will not be happy to say the least. |

It's nice and shiny and close to empty
We did have the other tank since we moved in here in Oct of 2003 so I would assume it needed to be tested. But why not have the new tank filled the same day as the replacement? I'm usually cool, calm and collect but if we run out, I will be "voicing my displeasure" |

Also here, they are required to provide the service of lighting all pilot lights, 24/7, regardless of why they went out. This is considered a safety thing. |

They had better credit you for the 25% that was in the old tank.

But this is one of the best propane companies in the area, family owned and run too. I've used them for over 20 years and this is the first time they've dropped the ball.

Same here. No natural gas lines in my entire county. Where I live now, we're all electric. Our last house had propane for the furnace and water heater. In the 12 years I lived in that house, the price of propane tripled, while electricity stayed about the same. We were using plug in space heaters in the winter.

1000 gallon propane tank here. Fill it twice a year. Propane companies are scam artists.

You do realize that tanks are only filled to 80%? (safety issues)
We are on propane (very rural) and we have a 500 gallon tank. We do heat, hot water and what little is used for the clothes drier and our whole house standby generator. WE pre pay in late spring for what it is thought we will use for the year to get a discount. The company is very good and normally the tank is filled without calling at about 40% If we go on generator for a reasonable time we just call the company and normally before the day is over we get a fill. We did use it for 21 hours last winter during one power out. All people that have generators are told this and they have it on our account information. |

The answering service will be getting an irate phone if I don't have hot water. I wasn't the one who dropped the ball. We called with 25% left in the tank. They took it upon themselves to change out the tank on friday. |
