When I was a kid - The Old Lady blew a whistle and drove a station wagon

If you didn't come home promptly after the whistle was sounded and the Old Lady had to come looking in the station wagon, there was serious **** to pay.

Anyone else ever live this way?

No whistle but mom had a really cool green and white 57 Chevy wagon ! Wish I had it now

My mom drove a '56 chevy. Red/wht.

But she never came looking for us.
7:30am "you kids get lost until 5pm (dinner time).
If we didn't get home before that dead-line,
it was the "strap" to the ass. I got it a few times.
One does not forget after round #2.

In the early 70’s mom had a yellow Chevy wagon but he voice carried so well that there wasn’t a need to track me down.. she just yelled out the window.

Fyi sleeping outside really sucks until you remember to leave 2nd floor window cracked.

Mom called 1 time only. When she was cleaning the table off you knew that it was a long time till breakfast. You didn't stay out past supper time very often.

No and I'm not aware of other kids that had that happen either. I wasn't likely to be within earshot of anything during the day and always returned home when it got dark. I was quite the explorer

I never missed a meal. She drove a '67 Country Squire with a 289. You could not hear it idle at a stop light, no tachometer of course, and she often re-engaged the starter to make sure that it was till running.

One time she had all five of us in the car as she was driving to Logan to pick up dad from a business trip. In one of the tunnels, Sumner I think, the car started to steer itself, it's front tires tracking the ruts in the pavement. She thought that she had lost the steering.
