Keg Fridge Died…
…with most of a $250 keg inside. In damage control mode. I’ve got ice bags packed inside. Not going to work long term. 50s and 40s next few days, I’ll probably put it outside and hope for the best. Doesn’t look like there’s a replacement in stock locally. I can get one in a few days, hoping the keg will stay cold enough until I can get a new one here. It’s probably twelve years old…that said, I’ve got an upright freezer in my garage that I bought in ‘85 that’s still going strong.
Yeah, I know, not life or death…beer fans, commiserate with me… |

Check craigslist or fakebook selling section for another 'frig. Ice is cheap compared to the keg.

If it's IPA or Stout I bet it will last a few days....it's the rat piss Pilsner and lagers that you need to worry about.

If the beer is already 12 years old a couple more days probably won't make much difference in the flavor or texture. I recommend scaling back to a Pony at a time, or perhaps a couple Monday Night Football soirees.

The beer is Anderson Valley’s Winter Solstice, it’s a “winter warmer” whatever that is. It’s sweet and malty. It’s a seasonal and the reason I bought the Kegerator in the first place, so I could enjoy it longer.
I just put the keg outside, hoping it’ll last until I can get a new fridge here. |

Well…I normally have one or two in a night, last night I had three, and I felt like I’d eaten an entire loaf of bread; it is rich.
Visited four places with appliances this morning, no luck. Amazon it is; should have it in the next few days (with any luck). Weather will be in the mid 20s overnight next week so I’ve got to be careful to keep it from freezing while trying to keep it cool. …and, I’ve got to figure out how to get rid of the old one. |

Used to wrap our party keg up in a sleeping bag and stick in the deep freeze. Put it in Friday after work and start drinking from it Saturday evening around 6-7. At work years ago, large garbage can and ice. Kept it good and cold.

I can supposedly just call the city to schedule a pick-up and set it on the curb the night before. Could be more fun to drop it off in my woods to use as a target before hauling it to the dump but the water heater that's already out there might get jealous.

Ordered a replacement fridge yesterday through Amazon, it’s indicated that I’ll have it between 12/19-12/21, but no indication that it has shipped yet. Also found a couple of YouTube vids on trouble shooting, for $16 I’ve got parts coming that might fix it, a starting relay, and a motor overload something. They’re due to arrive tomorrow.
Keg is in the dead fridge in my back garage. I’ve still got bags of ice on it, CO2 bottle is connected. The outside temp is going to the 20s tonight. The garage is insulated but not heated; I don’t think it will freeze. I’ll probably pour one from it later tonight, then stick it in the inside fridge to chill it. |
